Power Morphers

My kids started watching the original Mighty Morphing Power Rangers recently. When they said they wanted to be power rangers for Halloween I was super excited since my Mom had made my siblings and I power ranger costumes when we were young. Here is an easy tutorial for making the power morpher props!

First use the attached pdf templates and cut out the stickers and templates. Place packaging tape over the paper cutouts to make them more durable and give them more of a sticker appearance. Use scissors for this step.

Morpher Base

Next use the template of the morpher and make 3 identical cutouts using a utility knife.

Power Coin Cutout

Next cut out the circle template into the center of two of the morpher base cardboard pieces. Make sure you keep one of the cardboard circles. Trim the circle a little smaller than the hole you cut. You will use this to glue your power coin and magnet to it later.

Strap for Morpher

Cut the elastic strap to the length for your child's hand. Staple the strap to one of the cardboard base pieces. Make sure the sharp pointy part of the staple is coming out toward the strap. Then I flipped the strap over to the opposite side and placed the next cardboard morpher base over the ends of the pointy staples and hot glued them in place.

Lightning Crack

Glue a small magnet in the center of the circular cutout. Make sure your magnets on your morpher and power coins are opposites. Draw a lightning crack in the third morpher template. Cut halfway through that piece of cardboard with a utility knife to make the lightning crack indent. Hot glue the third morpher piece to the other two.

Aluminum Foil Tape

Use the aluminum foil tape to go around the outside of the morpher. Fold the excess tape into the center of the morpher. The tape tears easily and folds into the center well. I made some small cuts in the tape at the corners so the tape could lay down easier but the foil gives it a fun rock look to it. Cover the back under the strap with the tape as well. I used my finger to find the lightning crack indent from step 5 and made sure work the foil tape into the crack so I could see where it was. Being able to see the crack helps with putting the stickers on in the next step.

Make Power Coins and Glue Sticker Cut Outs

Use the cutout stickers that you placed packaging tape over. For the power coin, use the small cardboard circle you kept from step 3 and glue your power coin sticker to it. Next glue another small magnet to circle cardboard and you have your power coin. Hot glue the stickers you cut out in step one in place. Use a pen or marker to indent into the lightning crack.

All Done

I also glued a cardboard piece on the back of the morpher and wrapped that in the tinfoil tape. This allowed my daughter to hook it on her belt.
