Have you ever heard of a pound shop? There is more than meets the eye with some of the cheap goodies that you can get from these very low expense local stores. I picked up a small Fibre Optic Christmas tree from Poundland and had a Codebug lying around.
Step 1: What You Need

Get out that shopping list and write down the following:
1X Fibre Optic Christmas Tree
2X Crocodile Clips
1X Codebug
1X Micro USB to USB
1X CR 2032
1X Scissors
Step 2: Code It

Click On The Link below to find a great tutorial on how to make a LED flash.
NOTE: This will work with the Poundland Fibre Optic Tree.
Download this to your Codebug.
When you click Download it will tell you how to put it on your Codebug.
Step 3: Prepare the Tree for Hacking

The tree comes with a battery pack which is not needed so we just simply cut off the battery pack with some normal scissors.
NOTE: Try and cut as close to the battery pack as possible!
Step 4: 'Shave' the Wire
![Slide5.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F1Y/HLFE/II4UEL5L/F1YHLFEII4UEL5L.jpg&filename=Slide5.JPG)
This is the most difficult part. If you are a kid you must ask an adult for help.
The best way to do this is get your scissors on an angle and get them in as far as you can without cutting the wires and pull them.
DO ONE AT A TIME!
Step 5: Wire It Up
![Slide6.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F1Q/DIUN/II4UEN0P/F1QDIUNII4UEN0P.jpg&filename=Slide6.JPG)
Be Careful Not to blow up your Codebug in the process.
Get a crocodile clip and put one on each wire
Get the other end of the Negative wire and connect it to 0 on the Codebug.
Get the other end of the Positive wire and connect it to PWR on the Codebug.
Step 6: Connect the Battery.

Turn the Codebug to the back and slot the CR 2032 battery into the battery holder.
Step 7: Conclusion

You Should See The Christmas Tree Flash instead of the solid red when you bought it.
VOILA!
Challenge: Try adding something to appear on the 5X5 display while the tree is flashing
