Potion-Ingredient Jar
Hello my dear witches and wizards!
Today I want to present to you this wonderful and easy potion-ingredient-jar!
As you can see it is self-protecting and suits all your small but valuable ingredients like dragon-fangs, snake-venom or even unicorn-hair!
You want to know how to make one for yourself?
Then let's get started!
The Jar
You will need a container to your liking.
I used an old Vitamin-pill container.
First of all you need to get rid of all the unnecessary stuff on your container...
Sand and Create
Take your container and some sand-paper and sand it thoroughly.
Do not leave a spot out, since the paint can't cling to the smooth surface of the container otherwise.
Once you have sanded your container, you can start creating.
I prefer to sketch things out in pencil first.
Glue and Paint
Use a hot-glue gun to paint your design onto the container.
Wait until the glue is dry and hard before applying your primary-colour.
The primary-colour can be whatever colour you like.
Make sure you cover the whole container.
Dust and Dirt
Once your primary-colour has dried you can start with the secondary-colour. For this I suggest very dark colours like dark-brown or black.
Dust and Dirt will find hold in cracks and gaps the most, so I suggest applying some paint around your design.
Use a paper-towel to rub off excessive paint.
Apply some thin paint on your container and rub it with the paper-towel instantly to give it a dirty look.
If something got too dirty you can always go over it with your primary-paint again.
The Cap
My cap has some grooves that were hard to reach with a paper-towel.
I used a thin brush to apply black paint into them and rubbed the excess off with the paper-towel.
Then I applied some of my primary-paint into the towel and rubbed over the cap again.
After that I proceeded like I did with the container: Applying thin paint and instantly rubbing it with the paper-towel.
Decorate and Finish
If you are happy with how it looks, you are done now.
I was unsatisfied though. I wanted something on top of the jar.
So I looked through all kind of stuff to find something useful for my jar.
The skeletons I used in the end are some figurines from "Warhammer fantasy" I used to collect when I was younger.
They were already sprayed black, so I just had to apply some silver and glue them together. (They come in parts)
For that I put some silver paint onto my paper-towel and carefully rubbed the parts with it. Then I glued them to the cap of the container and let them dry.
After that I added some more black paint to my cap, especially around the skeletons.
Since I doubt that most of you will have some Warhammer lying around at home, I suggest using some small toy-animals or other tokens. You might have to sand them, if they have a shiny surface, so the paint sticks.
Have fun!
