Potatoes Gateaux is a savoury main course principally made of potatoes, ham and cheese. It`s originally an Italian-french dish, whose origins are in 1700-1800 in Naples. It`s a really easy and tasty dish to make that can be enjoyed with your family and friends.
Prepare the Potatoes
Weight 1 Kg of potatoes. Make a cut around the diameter of each potato, it will help the peeling afterwards. Place the potatoes in a pot with water (all the potatoes should be completely covered), wait for the water to boil. The potatoes are ready when you can pass a fork through them without making any effort. The time depends from the potatoes dimensions, 3 big potatoes (as in photo) usually takes up to 40 minutes.

Once the potatoes are fully cooked peel them while they are still hot. To help yourself use a fork and a spoon. Once the potatoes are peeled you can mash them using either a fork or a potato masher.
Cut Time
While waiting for the now mashed potatoes to cool down, cut the ham and cheese in small squared pieces.
Prepare the Gateaux
Add the egg, salt, black pepper, ham, cheese, 80 gr of parmesan and 2 tsp of breadcrumbs on the mashed potatoes. Mix well the potatoes with all the other ingredients.
Prepare for the Oven

Ready for the Oven
Pour and spread, the gateaux inside the oven dish until flattened. Cover the gateaux with the remaining parmesan and pour enough breadcrumbs to cover the entire area.
