Supplies and Tools
Supplies
When making your Portable Phone Charging Caddy you only need a few supplies. For this project you will need:
- Recycled lotion bottle --- To hold phone while charging
- Power Supply (box cube style wall plug) --- Used as mounting system.
- Sharpie marker --- To draw the lines/outlines, so you know where to cut
- Duct Tape --- To add color for your project
Tools
- Razor blade --- To cut the bottle.
- Ruler---To have the correct sizing and straight lines
Mark Recycled Bottle
Clean, rinse, and dry your lotion bottle. Use a ruler to measure your phone and your lotion bottle, draw the lines with the sharpie. When drawing the lines make sure your phone will fit in height and width.
Exact measurements will depend on the size and style of phone in relation to the recycled bottle. We recommend cutting bottle slot so that at least the top 1/2 of the phone is sticking out from the top front of bottle.
Cut Bottle
With your razor blade carefully cut on the lines. Make sure your hands are out of the way while cutting and you have help from an experienced person for this step! Kids might ask Mom or Dad to help with this step.
Decorate
To "spazz" up your project and add some color, use the duct tape for this step! You can use any type/color of duct tape to your liking. Make sure you get the whole bottle covered, inside and out.
Trace and Cut Mounting Hole
Using your power supply as a template, trace where your charging box will go. Then with your experienced razor blade cutter, use the razor blade to cut out the lines where you drew on the bottle. This step will help make the caddy part of the instructable stay held on your wall/outlet. Essentially the Power Supply becomes a mounting unit.
Mount It
Now you have finished the building part of the instructable! Insert your power supply through the hole you cut. Then plug it into the wall, so it looks like the following.
Summary
You have accomplished the Portable Phone Charging Caddy! This instructable has many features to it, such as:
