Pop-up Present Birthday Card

supplies.jpeg

During my childhood I wasn't a great artist, but I loved making Birthday cards, and seeing the smiles it brought. It was then that I was shown the "3D" birthday card version, and that is what I wanted to share today.
Also it happens to be my nephews birthday so I might as well go back to my roots :)

Supplies

  1. A blank piece of paper
  2. A blue piece of paper
  3. Scissors
  4. A pencil
  5. Some crayons and markers
  6. Glue or duct tape

Step 1: Draw Your Outlines

Take the blank sheet of paper and fold it in half.

Take your pencil and draw 3 boxes stacked on top of each other on the folded side of the paper.

Make the vertical line on the boxes dotted lines. One big box on the bottom, one medium box on top of the big box, and one small box on top of the medium box.

Step 2: Cutting

With the scissors, cut along the solid lines on each box. Do not cut the dotted line of any the boxes!

Step 3: Fold and Pop

Fold each box up on the dotted line. Then open the card gently, be carful not to rip the boxes. Pinch the cut-outs vertically towards you carefully. Once the cut outs are popped out, close the card on them and press down.

Step 4: Decorate!

Since I was making this for my nephew, I thought about drawing a sky and flowers with the present shape.

But you can draw whatever you think about that will make the other person happy!

Step 5: Glue the Background

Cut a thin line around each side of the paper. Then take the blue card stock paper and fold it in half. Glue the white piece of paper into the card stock. You should be able to see a blue outline around the white paper. If not, cut more around the outside of the white paper.

And... Done! :) Happy Birthday to whomever this card is addressed to!
