10 buckets - Not the traditional red cups... go as big as you dare.

4 balls - diameter should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the chosen bucket size.

We purchased all our items at the "Dollar Twenty Five" store, formally know as the Dollar Tree. Currently, our local store had beach sand buckets that were just the right size. The buckets will be set up in 4 rows with 1 bucket in the first row, 2 buckets in the second row, 3 in the third and 4 in the fourth. We picked a different color bucket for each row.

For the balls, we found a plastic covered foam ball that had a slight bounce... not too much else we'd be chas'n that ball all over the place. We picked four balls total with 3 balls of one style and the fourth being a different color as the "money" ball.

Preparation

The only preparation required was to remove the handles and included shovels from the buckets.

Game Setup

Find an open area near the pool or in the yard. Setup the 10 buckets in four rows, bowling pin style. Fill the buckets up with enough water to keep them from tipping over from the impact of the balls. You could also use sand or rocks.

That's it! Now you're ready to play Pool Pong.

Suggested Rules

You can be creative and make up any rules you like, but here is a suggested set to get you started.

2 Player Rules

  1. Players stand 15 feet back from the buckets... one on each side.
  2. Player one starts with the three regular balls and the money ball.
  3. Throw the balls one at a time, attempting to land the ball in one of the buckets.
  4. Made balls stay in the bucket. Missed balls are collected by player two.
  5. Player two takes all missed balls and throws from their side, also attempting to land the balls, one at a time, in the buckets.
  6. Continue until all balls have landed in a bucket.
  7. Add up points, one per ball. Two points for the money ball.
  8. Players switch sides and repeat with player two starting first.
  9. Continue for four rounds.
  10. Winner is the one with the most points.
