This simple pony bead snake can be made in under 5 minutes and with its easily customizable nature, the color combinations and patterns are endless. The one in this guide is just one color to keep it simple, but don't be afraid to personalize it and switch it up by mixing and matching colors!

Supplies

For this quick project, you will need the following materials:

  1. 3 feet of black lanyard string
  2. 45 pony beads in the color(s) of your choice
  3. 2 black pony beads
  4. 1 key ring

Start With the Nose

Take 2 beads in the color of your choice (mine are yellow) and slide them through the lanyard string, making sure they are centered.

Continue the Head

Next, take 3 more beads and slide them through one end so that the string is just barely poking out. Now take the other end of the string and feed it through the 3 beads in the opposite direction. Pull both ends to tighten the string and secure the 3 beads just below the first 2.

Add the Eyes

To add the eyes, take 2 black beads and 2 colored beads and put them through one end of the string as shown on the left. Just like the previous step, take the other end of the string and feed it through the beads in the opposite direction of the first end. Pull both ends tight and you have officially created the snake's head!

Add the Body

Next, just like the second step, take 3 beads and pull one end of the string through, then pull the other end through the opposite side. Pull both ends tight to assure the beads are in place. Repeat this step 11 times to create the body of the snake, making sure to secure the beads each time.

Finish the Snake

Once you have 2 beads remaining, repeat the process one last time, making sure the string is pulled and the beads are tightly secured. This will be the end of the snake.

Tie It Off

Once the string is secured, tie a knot to finish it off and keep everything in place.

Add a Key Ring

Finally, cut off the loose ends of the knot and attach a key ring. Now it's ready to be attached to a backpack, bag, or anywhere you like!
