Polish Silver Using an Empty Beer Can

If you have tarnished silver it may be easier to polish it than you think.

Here's how:

Supplies

Empty aluminum beer can

Hot water

Baking Soda

Make Some Aluminum Sheet

Cut the top and bottom off a beer can with a knife and then trim the edges using a pair of scissors. Then cut down the middle of the can and make flat but moving the curled sheet over an edge of a table to create a flat sheet of aluminium.

Sandpaper

Sandpaper the painted side of the aluminium sheet. You can use a reasonably rough grade to expose the aluminium metal.

Add in Baking Soda

  1. Take a bowl and place the aluminium sheet in it with the Sandpapered side up.
  2. Place the silver item to be polished on top.
  3. Pour on some boiling water and add a tablespoon of baking soda.

After 10 minutes remove the silver item and lightly rub it with a cloth to remove the displaced tarnish and you will have shiny silver again.
