For a bake sale I wanted to make something different then your normal cupcake, so I made poison apples.

Since am not to great with baking but I love to decorate I used a box cake mix and store bought icing. However you can make your own icing and cake from scratch.

You can leave the Apples without the candy glass and razor blades but I think its funner with them.

For your cakes. You will need:

Your choice of cake mix
Mixer
Bowl
Cake Pop Mold

Bake your cake as directed.
When filing the molds make sure to only fill 3/4 of the way full and make sure to have greased the inside so that they release from the mold. Once done baking place on cooling rack and allow to cool.

Candy Glass

For the candy glass. You will need:

1 1/2 cup of sugar
3/4  cup water
Candy Flavor (optional)
Candy thermometer
Baking sheet lined with aluminum foil
Sauce Pan or pot

Add the water and sugar to the pot. Clip on the candy thermometer and boil at a medium high heat till the thermometer
reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit or until the candy takes on a pale golden color on the edges. If you want to flavor the sugar
add your candy flavor now.

When the tempture is reached pour onto your baking sheet and carefully tilt the baking sheet to allow the sugar to cover the baking sheet. Place off to the side to allow to cool.

Once cool carefully peel the sugar sheet off the pan and depending on how thick the candy glass is break with your hands or use a hammer to break into pieces that resemble shards. Place on a lined sheet till ready to use.

The first time I made my candy I increased the heat causing the sugar to take on a yellow hue to it. I do not oil my foil as I found when I did it caused a light white cast to my candy which you can see in the photo. When I made it the second time I did not grease the sheet and did not run into the problem but I forgot to take a photo.

For the Razor Blades. You will need

Fondant
Black Food Dye
Tooth Pick
Rolling Pin
Straw
Knife

Dust your counter with icing sugar so the fondant does not stick. Take a piece of fondant and flatten out a little. Dip you tooth pick into the food coloring and wipe onto the fondant, you only need a little as you only want to make the fondant grey. Kneed the color into the fondant. If the fondant gets too soft and sticky just put into the freezer for a couple of minutes and it will be easier to work with.

Roll of the grey fondant into a strip. Use a ruler or anything straight to create a rectangle in the fondant. Cut out and cut the fondant into little rectangles, depending on the size of your cupcake will determine the size of the razor blades.  Use the straw to cut out half circles on the sides of the razors.

Place the razor blades on a piece of waxed paper and dust with edible silver glitter. Place the razors on a pan and set aside till ready to use. Use the paper to put excess glitter back into the container.

For Candy Apples. You will need:

Icing
Cupcakes
Fondant
Red food dye
Vodka
Paint Brush
Rolling Pin
Toothpicks
Knife

Frost your cupcakes, I added a little lime flavor to the icing to give them a kick.  Set the cupcakes aside.

Dust your counter with icing sugar so the fondant does not stick. Take a piece of fondant and flatten out a little. Dip you tooth pick into the food coloring and wipe onto the fondant. Kneed the color into the fondant. If the fondant gets too soft and sticky just put into the freezer for a couple of minutes and it will be easier to work with.

Roll your fondant into a circle it does not need to be perfect but you want it large enough to cover the cupcakes. Once your fondant is rolled into a circle, grab one of your cupcakes and place the fondant over top. Use your fingers to smooth the fondant down and close to the bottom of the cake, at this point it will be  looking like a red hat. Trim away the excess fondant from the bottom with a knife leaving a boarder of fondant. Gently flip your cupcake over and fold the fondant in towards the center of the cake bottom smoothing out the edges as you go.

Place the cupcake onto a cupcake cup. Use the end of your paint brush and make a small divot in the top of the cupcake as this is were the stem and leaf are going to go. Lightly dampen the divot and where you are going to place the leaf, place the leaf and stem where you would like the dampness will help them stick to the fondant.

Take your paint brush and dip into a little vodka lightly brush onto the cupcake apple. This will give the apple a nice sheen.

Now you can either leave the apple how it is and you have some lovely cupcake apples. Or you can add embellishments to them to make them Poison Apples.

For your assembly. You will need:

Fondant razor blades and candy glass
Cupcake Apples
Jam
Toothpick
Knife

Now that you have the apples you can go ahead and add the razors blades and glass. Take your knife and make a small slit into the cupcake apple where you would like your glass and razor blade to be. Press the glass and razor blade into the cupcake. Take your tooth pick and add  jam around the base of your glass and razor blade to make it look like the apple is bleeding from the wound.

Place your finished  apples on display and enjoy.
