All things 'mini' automatically becomes cute...don't you agree?

Well I find mini embroidery hoops utterly adorable and it's a great way to gift your mom or best friend with something from you that they would love. You don't actually have to add embroidery. You can even add a piece of fabric from your favorite old frock or even insert a picture if you like.

Read on to see how I made this cute necklace.

You would basically need 2mm plywood .

tiniest nut and bolt per embroidery hoop

wood glue

fabric, embroidery floss and all things needed to sew...like needle and scissor.

Ok, I know everyone doesn't have a laser cutter even though they would looove to have one....me being one of those people, but hey...you can always get it cut from those who have right? You just have to make a file and guess what?? I made life easy for you by providing you with a dxf file that you can use. Re size it to your size preference. I've given loads of options.

Now go get it cut. Save all the inside discs. You would need them. I used only 2mm plywood, as I wanted to do all in one cut file , (it's less costly too) I have added 3 rings per hoop to make it thick.

Glue up 3 hoops and clamp it.

Now drill a tiny hole where I have added tabs for the bolt. screw in the nut and bolt.

Now it's time to sew something cute to put in there

I love how a woven rose looks like and so thought to try it out. It's very basic and simple.

For this i have used all 6 strands of the embroidery floss.

Mark 5 spokes as shown in the picture. As you can see i have placed my hoop to make sure i get the right size.

Now sew the lines as i have shown step by step in the pictures..

Once you have sewn the spokes, weave the thread in and out the spokes. Do not pull the thread tight, but loosely sew. Please refer to pictures for detailed instructions.

Continue to sew till your flower is full. In the center you can add french knots as i have shown in the pictures. For detailed instructions on lazy daisy and french knot click the highlighted link.

Once you have done your embroidery, cut around the embroidery leaving a broad border.

Place the blank under the embroider. Glue up the excess fabric at the back of the blank. Loosen the nut and place the embroidery in. Add another blank .. Remember you would be having 3 blanks from the inside cutouts of the hoop. now place glue around the back of the hoop border and clamp with the backing piece.

Isn't it cute? You can also add printed fabric if you like as i have shown in the picture.

Gift It!
