Pocket Dice Kit

Image 1.jpg

This is one of three instructables we made during our apprentice style team building day.

You can see the introduction video about the day and how you can get involved to vote for a winner here.

This instructable details how to assemble our completed Pocket Dice kit.

The kit contains all the required components, along with instructions and a template to drill the box.

The final product is a handy portable pocket sized dice, which can be customised using different coloured boxes or LED’s.

Boxes are also available in white or grey, and a variety of different coloured LED’s are available to purchase.

The assembly process requires basic soldering and assembly skills.

Items required (all included in the kit):

  • Standard dice project kit – (Kitronik reference 2109)
  • Black two-part module box – (Kitronik reference 2034)
  • 3 x AA batteries – (Kitronik Reference 2201-02 x 2)
  • Drilling template
  • Pre-cut foam pad

Tools required:

  • Soldering Iron
  • Lead free solder
  • Wire cutters

Using the Drill Template

Image 3.jpg

Tape template centrally to the outside lid of the box as shown in image 3.

Place lid on box, and drill pilot holes for 7 LED’s and switch.

Open up holes carefully using 5mm drill bit ensuring the drill does not go through the bottom of the box.

Assemble Dice Kit

Image 4.jpg

Assemble a dice project kit, as per instructions (supplied), but inserting IC directly into the PCB as opposed to first fitting the IC socket.

Discard the IC socket.

This is to enable the LED’s and switch to protrude.

Test the assembly as per the instructions.

Fit the Board

Image 5.jpg

Push PCB through the pre-drilled holes from the rear of the box lid. LED’s and switch should protrude.

Secure the board to the lid with tape, ensuring it is held firm to the lid.

Assemble Case

Place battery box into the base of the box and place pre-cut foam pad on top.

Place lid on the box and secure with four screws.

Enjoy Your Pocket Dice
