Pneumatic Syringe Elevator

Before the project, here is some information about hydraulic and pneumatic power:

Hydraulics: Are something using WATER moving through something for power to move something else. They are used in Wings and Rudders, Excavating Equipment, and Hydraulic Brakes.

Pneumatics: Are something using AIR moving through something for power to move something else. For example: Air Brakes, Exercise Machines, Compressed-air Engines, and more.

They both harness a section of matter to move something using pressure.

The syringe-evator uses pneumatics.

You will need 2 6x11 in. rectangles, an 8x11 in. rectangle, and a 6.5x5 in. rectangle.

Cut Two Holes.

In one of the 6x11 rectangles cut two holes that your syringes can slide into. One 3.5 in. up and the other 6 in. up, and the one on the top should be 1 in. to the right of the other one.

Put Syringes in the Holes

20171029_102442.jpg

Insert the syringes into the holes you made in the previous step. Label the lower one 1b and the upper one 3b.

Measure Where Two More Syringes Will Go

Take another syringe and fully extend it and hold it up to 1b and take a not extended syringe and hold it up to 3b the tops of the plungers should align. Hot glue them in place and label the lower one 2b and the upper one 4b.

Add the Tubing to the Sringes

Attach the tubing to the syringes.

Cut 2 Holes for Tubing

Next to syringe 1b cut a 1/4 in. hole and slide the tubing attached to 4b through it. Than cut a hole or triangle at the bottom and slide the tubing for 2b through it.

Attach the Other Syringes

Take the last four syringes and attach them to the tubes and label them correspondingly (1b to 1a, 2a to 2b, ext.)

Add the Other Panels

Using hot glue attach to pander with the syringes to the side of the 8x11 in. rectangle. On the other side of the 8x11 in. rectangle add the other 6x11 in rectangle.

Add the Stoppers

Take the Styrofoam and cut 3 little rectangular prisms out of it. Add one of them every wall and the tops should be slightly over the top of syringe 2b.

Create two Ts out of Popsicle sticks one should be bigger than the other. Attach the bigger T to top of syringe 2b, and have the flat side against the wall. Add the smaller T to the top of syringe 4b have the flat side away from the wall.

Cut a Hole for the Upper T

Cut a hole for the Popsicle stick touching the wall so 3b can fully retract, then extend the hole up by about 3/4 in.

Cut the Smallest Piece of Cardboard

Cut the smallest piece of cardboard so that when it goes up from the stoppers it doesn't get caught on anything.

How to Use

20171031_072100.jpg
