Play Minecraft Modpacks With Prism Launcher

This guide will go through the process of downloading and playing Minecraft modpacks using Prism Launcher, a powerful program that can manage different versions of Minecraft with separate mods. It will go over:
- Logging into your Minecraft account
- Downloading the modpack
- Setting up Java for the modpack
Note: Read each step fully before following them to avoid confusion.
Supplies
Before following this guide, you'll need:
- A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. You can get one at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-bedrock-edition-pc
- Prism Launcher installed. Download it from https://prismlauncher.org/download/
- A modpack you want to install from Curseforge. Find one at https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/search?class=modpacks
Log Into Your Microsoft Account

Playing Minecraft through Prism Launcher requires logging into a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. It's best to do this first so you don't run into any issues later.
Note: You may have already logged in while setting up Prism Launcher. If this is the case, skip to Step 2.
- First, open Prism Launcher on your computer.
- In the top right of the Prism Launcher window, click "Accounts", then click "Manage Accounts" (Image 1).
- This opens the account window, shown in Image 2. In the top right of this window, click "Add Microsoft", then click "Sign in with Microsoft" in the popup. This will open the Microsoft website in your browser.
- Through this website, log into your Microsoft account by entering your username and password. If you're already logged into your Microsoft account, just click on the account that shows up.
Once you're logged in, you should see the added account with your username and a status that says "Ready". In the bottom right of the account window, click "Close" to go back to the original window and move on to the next step.
Add a Modpack

Now, you'll add your chosen modpack to Prism Launcher. This will download all the necessary mods and files to set up Minecraft. If you haven't chosen a modpack yet, go to the Curseforge link in the Supplies section above and find one.
- In the top left of the Prism Launcher window, click "Add Instance" (Image 1).
- This opens a new window. Following the video attached above for parts 2-5, go to the "Curseforge" section on the left side of this window.
- Click into the search bar and type the name of the modpack you want to add, then press Enter.
- Click on the modpack in the search results. You may have to scroll down the list to find it.
- Click "OK" and wait for the modpack to finish downloading.
If you see a pop-up like the one in the image above labelled "Blocked Mods", go to Step 3. Otherwise, if you see the modpack like in the image labelled "Final", you can skip to Step 4.
Download Blocked Mods

In some cases, you'll see a pop-up like the one in the image above that says "Blocked mods found". This means you have to download some mods manually, following these steps:
1. Click "Open Missing". This opens a tab in your browser for each blocked mod you have to download. Click on each of the tabs and save the mod to your Downloads folder. Depending on your browser, this will either happen automatically or you have to choose which folder to save the mod to. If you have to choose, make sure the folder name matches what the Prism Launcher window lists under "Watched Folders".
!! IMPORTANT !!
You must click on all the tabs that open, or some mods won’t be downloaded. This could lead to Minecraft not working properly. The only way to know you’ve done this step correctly is if the window says “All mods found” in the bottom left.
2. Once all blocked mods have been downloaded, the bottom left corner of the window will say "All mods found". Click "OK" and wait for the rest of the mods to finish downloading.
When the modpack is finished downloading, it will appear in Prism Launcher like the image in Step 2 labelled "Final".
Configure Java for the Modpack

In this step, you'll install the correct version of Java needed for Minecraft to run. You'll also increase the amount of memory Java is allowed to use, since modpacks typically need large amounts of memory.
- Click the modpack once to select it. In the sidebar on the right, click "Edit" (Image 1).
- This will open a window with information about your modpack. Following the video attached above for parts 2-5, go to the "Settings" section on the left side of this window.
- Check the box next to "Java installation", then click "Download Java". Select the first option in the list and click "Download". Remember the number under "Version", it will be important for the next part. In the example, this is 21.0.3.
- Once the download finishes, click "Auto-detect". From this window, select the option that has the same version number that you just remembered. Then, click "Ok".
- Next, check the box next to "Memory", then click into the box labelled "Maximum memory allocation" and change it to 8192 MiB. This is enough memory to run almost all modpacks available.
Once you finish, the settings should look similar to what's at the end of the video.
Launch Minecraft

At this point, you can launch Minecraft! If you still have the settings window open, click "Launch" at the bottom of the window (Option 1).
Otherwise, click launch in the right sidebar (Option 2). Have fun!
