Hello everybody,

So this is a project that I have made with my daughter, A working blender from a used plastic cup and cardboard.

  1. There will be 2 in 1 tutorial, the first one is without a DC motor, but still cool,
  2. And the second one is for you who want to take a little further with a spinning cardboard blade and wall socket

Supplies

For making the 1st version of this project you will need :

  1. Cardboard
  2. Used plastic cup or bottle plastic will also possible and a straw (I know we shouldn't use any plastic cup anymore, but here in Indonesia is still common) that is why I try to make something out of it.
  3. Hot gun glue
  4. Scissor and cardboard cutter
  5. Sharpie

Making the Blender Jar

Please follow the step :

  1. Cut cardboard 5cm in width and you can adjust the length depending on your glass diameter
  2. Bend the cardboard so it flexes and using hot glue wrap at the bottom of the jar.
  3. The result
  4. Making the lid. Get new cardboard, Draw the circle using top of the glass using a sharpie, and cut a little bit outside of the line so the lid can fit on top of the glass.
  5. Cut a hole in the middle so for the blender spoon ( we will use the straw) so make sure the hole is fit with the straw.
  6. We are going to give a border or an edge for the cup lid. Use about 1cm width of cardboard, and wrap around the lid with a hot gun.
  7. Cut a piece of cardboard in circular, and poke a hole in the center using a pencil and attach using a hot gun.
  8. Make the glass handle like this. Attach also using hot gun.

  • 9. The cup holder. Cut cardboard with height around 3cm and adjust the length so it can have the diameter of the bottom glass. Use the glass as the template. Do not make it too tight, so we can make it detachable. Also 15x15cm for the cup holder base
  • 10. after you get the diameter you want, Attach using glue and then attach to the cup holder base with the hot glue.
  • 11. We'll also cover around the base using 5cm height cardboard, and cut in angle for the front side.
  • 12. And lastly, cover with cardboard the front, and add some finishing touch with cardboard button and a sharpie.
  • Your cardboard blender is done.

  1. The motorized version has the same steps to make the builds as version 1, except for the first step you need to cut the bottom of the glass using a cutter before you wrap it. Because we will add the cardboard blade from the bottom.
  2. You will also need :
    1. 1x DC motor
    2. 6V Battery (2x 18650 or 4x 1.5v AA battery)
    3. Battery case
    4. DC power jack male and female.
  3. And then using a screwdriver, you can make this connection. You don't need the polarity, the dc motor will work just fine. Connect the motor and the battery to check if it's run or not.
  4. Making the blade, Make sure the blade has enough room to rotate inside the glass.
  5. The blade shaft, Create a rounded cardboard shape that fits into the motor shaft and glue to the blade
  6. Create a cardboard washer to make the blade spin stable. Glue only the left side (just like the picture)
  7. Grab another cardboard, use the bottom glass as the template, we will cover the bottom of the glass with this.
  8. Make a hole in the center, a big one. So the blade shaft can rotate freely.
  9. Attach the 2nd washer at the bottom, make sure the blade still rotating freely.
  10. And glue the bottom glass.

  • 11. Make a hole in the middle of the base for the motor shaft, and glue the motor.
  • 12. Make a way for dc cable and glue it.
  • 13. I cut the backside of the cup holder so I can attach the blade shaft to the dc motor, you can add a bit hot glue.
  • 14. Make the wall using this size.
  • 16. Use a pencil to punch a hole for the email DC socket and glue the battery also the dc socket.
  • 17. And you are done, draw a brick wall using a sharpie, you can also paint with colors if you want.
