Plastic Bottle Flowers
With California in a severe drought and the water companies enforcing strict water usage rules, recycling is a great way to both help the environment and decorate a backyard. In this tutorial you will learn how to make flowers out of plastic bottles.
Gather Your Materials
You will need the following materials:
Plastic Bottles
Scissors
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
String Lights (solar or plug in)
Pen
Cutting the Plastic Bottle
Cut along the ridge that's right above the water label. Cutting along the ridge will allow you to cut in a straight line.
Making the Petals
Cut 5 equally spaced vertical lines. The vertical cuts should be approximately 1 1/2 inches in length.
Giving the Petals Shape and Form
Make curved edges between each vertical cut that was made in step 3.
Pull the petals back toward the bottle cap.
Paint Your Flowers
Choose your favorite colors and paint your flowers with acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry and paint a second coat.
Make a Hole OnThe Bottle Cap
Using a pen, make a hole on the bottle cap
Decorating a String of Lights
Carefully insert a light into the hole that you made using the pen.
Decorate Your Back Yard
Wrap the string of lights around a tree. Whether there's sunlight or moonlight, your backyard will have a beautiful display of reused plastic flowers.
