Plastic Bottle Bride : Plastic Up-cycling

Turn those waste plastic bottles into beautiful showpieces to decorate your home.

1. Old Plastic Bottle
2. White acrylic paint
3. Paint brush
4. Clay: White, Red, Brown, Green and Skin color (I have used polymer clay. You can also use air dry clay.)
5. Eye pins (Usually used for jewelry making)
6. Clay Shapes cutter (Fondant cutters can also be used, but you can’t use it again to make cake)
7. Super Glue (Any strong glue)

Understand your bottle’s shape and plan where each part of your doll would be.

I wanted the bottle neck to be my doll’s waist, because, below the bottle neck is a beautiful twist that looks like a swirling skirt.

So, plan your doll’s shape according to the bottle you choose.

Make an approximate body shape with clay which would fit your plastic bottle’s mouth.

It doesn’t have to be perfect at this stage.

Remove the clay body from the bottle and start making your doll while maintaining the size of the waist as much as possible.

1. Add white clay for dress.
2. Add Head (Use an eye pin to make sure the head doesn’t roll away. Refer image 2).
3. Add base hair and ears.

Add Curly Hair.

1. Choose a clay for hair.
2. Roll clay in a tapering shape
3. Flatten with hand
4. Engrave lines on both sides of the flattened clay with an eye pin.
5. Twist the clay to get the curly effect.
6. Add to the head one by one.

1. Flower bouquet.

Choose a bright color that creates a good contrast with white.

I chose red. Use the flower shaped clay cutter to make similar sized flowers for the bouquet.

2. Tiara.

Bend an eye pin to make the wire of the tiara and add polymer clay flowers and leaves to it.

Use the flower shaped cutter to make the flowers. Refer Images 2 and 3

Smooth out rough edges, if any.

Bake according to instructions on your clay’s package. (In case of air-dry clay, you can just let it dry naturally)

While the clay is getting ready in the oven, prepare the plastic bottle.

Paint the bottle with white acrylic paint (At least 2 coats)

Let it dry.

Once your clay has been baked and cooled down add it to the painted plastic bottle with a strong glue.

Your Plastic bottle bride is ready.

The most important thing is Presentation.

Choose a place with an appropriate background color to make sure your doll’s beauty pops out. If you place it in front of a light-colored wall it won’t make any impact.

I chose red and I am loving it.
