Planter Box

We will be constructing a Planter's Box that is large and sturdy enough to hold dirt and a plant for any garden or home. Our motivation is to create this box with the most creativity and craftsmanship within our capability, without "breaking the bank".

When designing your Planter Box you have to have an idea of the dimensions you would like the box to be, what style you would like your box to look like, and what materials you would like the box to be made out of.

-Research different designs and figure out which design is best for you.

-Create several sketches to form an understanding of what you are looking for.

Measure the materials needed in your drafts for your design.

-1 Box of 1 1/2" Wood Screws, 1 Box of 2 1/2" Screws.

- 20' of 2x4" wood

- 30' of 1x4" wood

-25x 25" sheet of plywood

- Wood finish of your choice (this helps ensure that the box will have a long life)

-Measure the lengths of wood needed to create your box. Once the accurate measurement is marked, carefully and evenly cut the pieces of wood and organize them accordingly. For time efficiency, it is advisable to cut out multiple pieces at a time so that each component of the panel is ready for use.

Once the pieces of wood have been measured out, and cut to be used, you can start building the box. The most advisable route would be to construct each side panel. This will ensure that the side planks are level and soundly attached. Construct each panel by placing the smaller (1x4 and 1x2) planks flush on top of the two main 2x4 horizontal panels, in the order of your preference. Square the planks off, then you may choose to clamp the planks to increase precision, drill pilot holes into each of the of the planks, then drill in the screw to secure the wood together. repeat this process until you have completed your 4 individual panels.

Now, with four individual panels, we can start to see the box enter fruition. Have a side panel secured, then attach a second panel to the secured panel using a deck screws. Here we used an impact drill in order to more securely fasten the box. Connect each panel to one another until the frame of the box is secured. Our box is now assembled, just missing the bottom.

The next step to be done is to create the bottom of the box. This was done simply with a 21"x21" piece of plywood securely drilled to the bottom of the box. Now our box is complete!

Now that our box is complete, we can make our box more personal by applying a finish of paint/sealant.

You can also create a 1x4 lip on the top of the box, this would give the box a more noticeable, and pleasant appearance.
