Pizza and Brownies: Two staple foods of baking. They share many similarities beyond your local pizza restaurant. The one notable one: You can bake them the same way. Which way? On a pizza stone. Pizza stone brownies. "Is this polar pizza?" you say. No, it's brownies.

My dad is the one who introduced my family to this recipe. Ever since, it's been our go-to for brownies. Whether it was boxed or a homemade recipe, we would get out our pizza stone and start baking. We would bring it to birthday parties, Christmas parties, and wherever we needed a dessert, topping it with strawberries, kiwis, and mixed berries.

Yes, you can make this into polar pizza, but think of this recipe as a canvas for you to paint your masterpiece.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use regular bake. Do not use the temperature on your brownie recipe/boxed brownies box.

Cover the top of your pizza stone with parchment paper and set it aside. Ensure that you cover the entire area. Ignore the step in your recipe/boxed brownies box that says to line a pan. You will be using the pizza stone for baking.

Make Your Mix

Made Mix ans suroundings.jpg

Make your brownie mix as directed in your brownie recipe or on your brownie mix box. You may need to bake multiple batches depending on the amount of mix produced. Only use the directions up to the point where your mix is ready to be poured into a pan. Do not line any pan, nor set any temperature that the brownie mix box says to. Use the pizza stone, bake times, and temperature outlined above.

Pour Your Mix

Pour your prepared brownie mix onto the center of the parchment paper-lined pizza stone and spread evenly into a 12-inch round with a rubber spatula. Be careful not to let the mix get too close to the edge. Leave at least a one-inch margin between the edge and the mix. Remember: you can always do more batches as needed.

Cook in the Oven

Place the dish into your preheated oven and let the brownies cook for about 12 - 15 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean. Your cook time may vary.

Take the brownies out of the oven and let them cool on the pizza stone before serving.

Serve and Enjoy

After the brownies have cooled, cut them into squares using a pizza cutter. You can also use a pie cut for a pizza dessert.

Optionally, you can layer toppings of fruit, sauces, frosting, powdered sugar, or any other assortment of toppings on the brownies. Experiment and see what works!
