Pinecone Container Decoration
Using dried pinecones with winter decorating is a great way to bring the outdoors in. They come in all sizes and can be picked up in your own yard, parks or, with permission, from under the trees of friends.
Supplies
Large diameter glass container
Small daimeter container (optional)
Small dried pinecones
Collect your pinecones in the fall and put them in a dry place to fully dry and open. Bags of dry cones can also be purchased. Prowl thrift stores for large glass containers. Get a few so you can share your creations with friends.
If your supply of cones is limited, you can position a small diameter jar in the center of the larger one to take up space. As you load the cones into the container, remove any pine needles, grass, etc and tap the cones on a hard surface to remove dirt. Reject any damaged cones or position the bad side to the inside so it won't be seen.
You could dress up your cone display by adding a short string of battery powered fairy lights to the inside of the container as you fill it. A red ribbon around the top of the jar would set a festive mood.
