Pin Board Clock
Are you an avid pin collector but don’t have TIME to create pinboards? Need a quick gift for a pin fan but running out of TIME? It’s a rainy day and the kids are restless but you only have TIME and energy for a quick craft that will occupy them afterwards? This clock is simple to make with only a few supplies, perfect for anyone needing a quick craft fix.
Supplies
Hoop - wooden or plastic
Cloth - T-shirt, reusable grocery bag, piece of material
Hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, hot glue finger protectors
Clock components kit, 1 AA battery
Pins
You can find everything at a dollar store, except the clock kit, which can be found at Walmart or a craft store.
Center and Cut Cloth
Plug in the hot glue gun.
While the glue gun is heating up, place the cloth face down on the table.
Place the hoop on top of the cloth
(if the cloth is thin, double the layers or use a second piece of cloth on top of the cloth to strengthen it)
(if there is a design on the cloth, make sure it is centered before cutting)
Cut around the hoop, leaving approximately 2 inches around it.
Hot Glue Cloth to Hoop
Hot glue the cloth to the hoop by pulling the cloth over the back of the hoop.
Start on one side then glue the opposite side down, pulling the cloth to stretch it across the front side.
If there are 2 layers, glue the base layer first and then glue the cloth to it.
Rotate the hoop to glue the side flap down and then the side across from it, remembering to stretch the fabric.
Continue around the hoop gluing the rest of the fabric down.
Cut the Hole for the Clockwork
Turn the hoop over to work on the front.
Decide on the center of the clockwork by placing the clock hands on the cloth (remember, the clock does not have to be in the center of the hoop).
Remove the top 2 hands, leaving the short, wide hand with the largest hole on the cloth. The hole at the end will be where the center of the clock is located.
Place the tip of the pointed scissors (or any sharply pointed stick) in the hole at the end of the clock hand.
Gently twist and press the scissors to create a hole in the cloth. Support the cloth from the underside with your hand. Be careful not to stick your hand or fingers.
Remove the clock hand and cut a small X shape in the hole you made in the cloth. Keep the cuts tiny.
Assemble the Clock
Prepare to assemble the clock pieces in order- base with black rubber washer, metal washer, nut, shortest hour hand, long minute hand, longest second hand.
From the back, push the center post of the clockwork base through the hole. You want it to be snug.
On the front, place the metal washer on the clock post. Support the clock from the back to keep the fabric from stretching.
Twist the nut onto the post until it is tight.
With gentle, firm, even pressure, push the hole of the short hour hand onto the clock post until it locks in place. You may hear a click.
Repeat the above step with the long minute hand.
Insert the post under the longest second hand into the top of the clock post. Press straight down with strong pressure until it locks in place.
On the back, support the clock base as you Insert 1 AA battery into the clock.Be sure to insert it correctly with the + and - on the battery matching the + and - inside the battery compartment.
Set the time by spinning the gear just above the battery compartment.
Add Your Pins
Arrange your pins how you want them to go on your clock face.
Do Not place your clock face down. Tilt the back against something or hold it on its edge.
Support the fabric while you carefully push each pin into the fabric, being careful not to stick yourself. Press the pin backs onto the pin points.
You can change out the pins anytime you want a new look.
Hang and Enjoy
Hang your clock by the top of the hoop.
Enjoy!
