Pillows With Zipper (removable Lining)
I do love pillows! I wanted some pillows on my bed to use when I read or watch TV, so they should have removable lining to be washed if/when dirty.
Please, this 'ible will enter contests, vote for it if you like it (:
Prepare the Fabric
Choose the fabric. I used a 100% cotton colourful fabric.
Iron it flat. Measure it to cut the right amount of fabric. For example, I wanted a 43 cm wide, so I cut 2 squares of 43 cm plus 2 cm for the hem.
To cut the fabric very straight, fold it and iron it. The crease will be as straight as you need to cut it. The
creases could be use to sew straight, too.
Fold the hem where you'll put the zipper.
If you don't want to put the zipper, you can do the pillow with one big rectangle. The zipper need to be put on two separated squares.
Zipper!
Measure the zipper, if needed, shorten the zipper in the way suggested by Jessyratfink or the one suggested in my remix.
Pin it or baste it. (I know that someone put the pins perpedicular to the sewing line, but I always did it parallel, I prefer that way.)
1st Side of the Zipper
Sew the 1st side of the zipper. My new sewing machine have a presser foot for zipper, but for now I don't know how to use it (I will learn, maybe). So I use my mom's method: open the zipper, sew 10/12 cm. Put the needle in the fabric and lift the foot, close the zipper, lower the foot and go on sewing.
2nd Side of the Zipper
Pin/baste the 2nd side of the zipper as you did with the 1st.
Sew the Angles
Sew the angles near the zipper, maybe you prefer to do this by hand and not by sewing machine.
Squares
Sew the three sides of the squares that there not already sewed to the zipper. It's better to open the zipper halfway before sewing (otherwise you'll have to open the zipper from behind and this is quite difficult).
Turn
Turn the pillowcase on the right side.
Filling
You can do filling with different types of material. I found years ago two ready to use pilow fillings for 1 euros, it was the type of filling really soft and hypoallergenic, so I used those.
If it's not ready, you can simply do it following the same method as for the outer pillowcase, except I suggest not to put a zipper, but to sew it closed. You can use the rectangle method.
Filling In
Put the filling in the pillow cover and close the zipper.
(:
Finished! Now you have a wonderful pillow that you can wash :)
You can do this with all the shapes you want >^.^<
This my 43rd 'ible. It's dedicated to my Mom, that taught me everything I put in here. I.L.Y., Mom, I miss you.
