Pile of Books Lamp
I made this pile of books lamp a few days ago, I used old book covers I found at a local paper dump, I 3D printed the insides as hollow, to house the LEDs, and soldered the wires to the LEDs. I hooked it all together with hot glue and epoxy glue.
Supplies
You will need:
Book covers
LED strip and wire
3D printed pieces
3Amp 12v PSU
touch switch
PSU socket
Hot glue gun
epoxy glue
Source the Book Covers
I went to the local paper dump and got some book covers. Yes, I cut them from perfectly good books, so sue me, but those books were thrown away anyways.
3D Print the Insides
I designed a standard carcass for the LED light, then measured each book cover and fitted the standard carcass to each book cover, 3D printed all of them.
Soldering
I soldered the LED strips to the wire
Print the Connectors
I printed out these connectors that would connect the book covers together and would serve as rotation guides (so the book covers can take any shape and rotate around) The wires will also go through them that is why they are hollow. They are made of 2 pieces that screw into each other from both sides.
To put them in place I drilled round holes in each book cover from both sides.
Hook It All Together
Finally I glued the carcasses in place, put the connectors into the holes, and hooked it all together.
And Here Is Our Result
Finally we are done. The books can turn in any direction, the length of the wire (20cm) allows it. The switch also allows it to be dimmed as you like. For more info - subscribe to my youtube, I will have a full video tutorial soon!
