I wanted to make a new jewelry out of mother-of-pearl beads. For a while, I could not come up with a design. I wanted to make the unusual jewelry, with a secret or special meaning. The Instructables Pi Day Speed Challenge https://www.instructables.com/contest/piday2021/ helped me come up with designs. The idea is that the number of mother-of-pearl beads corresponds to the digits of Pi. I made a necklace, a bracelet and a pendant using this idea. I like my new jewelry, especially the bracelet. It encrypts 32 digits of Pi! I really love that my new jewelry has this secret.

Pi-Beaded Necklace. Stringing the Beads

DSCN7620--.JPG

First, let's remember digits of Pi: 3,1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937510...

You can make this Pi-beaded necklace from the same size beads or from different sized beads. In both variants, each digit of Pi must correspond to the number of beads of the same color, even if they are of different sizes.

You can string beads of different sizes in a group of the same color in any order you want. If you want to get exactly the same necklace as mine, then string the beads in this way:

3 crystals, which corresponds to the first digit of Pi 3,

1 blue big mother of pearl bead (bbpb), which corresponds to the first digit after the decimal point 1 (3.1),

1 white medium mother of pearl bead (wmpb), 2 white big mother of pearl beads (wbpb), 1 wmpb (3.14),

1 bbpb (3.141),

1 wmpb, 3 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.1415),

2 blue medium mother of pearl beads (bmpb), 2 bbpb, 1 bmpb, 2 bbpb, 2 bmpb (3.14159),

1 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.141592),

2 bmpb, 3 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926),

1 wmpb, 3 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.14159265),

1 bmpb, 1 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.141592653),

1 wmpb, 4 wbpb (3.1415926535),

2 bmpb, 4 bbpb, 2 bmpb (3.1415926535 8),

2 wmpb, 5 wbpb, 2 wmpb (3.1415926535 89),

1 bmpb, 4 bbpb, 2 bmpb (3.1415926535 897),

2 wmpb, 4 wbpb, 3 wmpb (3.1415926535 8979),

2 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 89793),

1 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.1415926535 897932),

1 bmpb, 1 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 8979323),

1 wmpb, 5 wbpb, 2 wmpb (3.1415926535 89793238),

1 bmpb, 2 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 897932384),

1 wmpb, 4 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846),

1 bmpb, 1 bbpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 2),

1 wmpb, 3 wbpb, 2 wmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 26),

3 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 264),

2 wbpb, 1 wmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 2643),

1 bmpb, 1 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 26433),

1 wmpb, 5 wbpb, 2 wmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 264338),

2 bbpb, 1 bmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383),

1 bmpb, 2 bbpb, 2 bmpb (3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5).

Connecting the Ends of the Necklace

DSCN7630---.JPG
DSCN7631--.JPG

Cut the fishing line, leaving the ends about 5 cm long. You will hide the connection inside the second crystal, so remove the first crystal and string it onto the opposite end of the fishing line. You should have two crystals at the beginning and one crystal at the end.

Tie a knot at one end of the fishing line, but do not tighten the knot. Pass the opposite end of the fishing line through this knot and tie a knot around the fishing line (see photo). Now tighten the knots as close to the beads as possible and as tight as possible. I usually use this method of joining for yarn. For fishing line this method works too.

Hiding the Junction and Enjoying the Pi-Beaded Necklace

DSCN7636--.JPG
DSCN7645--999--.JPG
DSCN7427--.JPG

Thread the ends of the fishing line through the adjacent crystals.

Slide the junction inside the second crystal (in the middle).

Cut off the ends of the fishing line that protrude from the crystal. As a result, the knots inside the crystal will not be able to unfold, and the transparent fishing line is almost invisible through the crystal.

I also made a Pi-beaded necklace from the same size beads. In this case, I decorated the necklace with a ribbon bow (singing the edges of the ribbon).

Pi-Beaded Bracelet. Stringing the Beads

DSCN7506--.JPG

The first digit of Pi is 3 and it will correspond to 3 crystals. String 3 crystals.

Move the crystals on the fishing line so that the end is about 3 m.

Then string 3 seed beads. For this bracelet, all groups of beads that correspond to one digit of Pi will be separated by 3 seed beads.

Next, you have to string the number of beads of the same color corresponding to the digit of Pi. In this case, the decimal point is followed by the digit 1, which means stringing one big blue mother-of-pearl bead. String 1 seed beat. The size of the seed bead must be larger than the hole in the last mother-of-pearl bead.

Reverse Stringing

DSCN7507--.JPG

This Pi-beaded bracelet, unlike the Pi-beaded necklace, has beads representing different digits of Pi not connected in series. You have to thread the fishing line back and string 3 seeds beads to separate the groups of beads.

In this case, you have one mother-of-pearl bead corresponding to digit 1. Therefore, thread the fishing line back through the mother-of-pearl bead. Then string 3 seed beads.

Continuing Stringing

DSCN7519--.JPG
DSCN7522--.JPG

This Pi-beaded bracelet is made of mother-of-pearl beads of different sizes. If you want to get exactly the same bracelet as mine, then use the scheme as for the Pi Beaded Necklace, only put in every time all the small mother-of-pearl beads at the end.

Continue stringing the beads as in the steps 5 and 6. Do not forget to string the spacer 3 seed beads (see photos).

Joining the Ends and Enjoying the Pi-Beaded Bracelet

DSCN7591--9.JPG

The stringing method I used, as well as the use of a not very thin fishing line, made this bracelet stretch. Therefore, you don't need latches. Simply connect the ends of the fishing line as in the step 2 and hide the junction as in the step 3.

Pi-Beaded Pendant. Stringing the Beads

DSCN7856--.JPG
DSCN7857--.JPG

In this case, I chose 3 white mother-of-pearl beads to represent the first digit of Pi. String these 3 beads onto the wire.

Next, string blue and gold small beads alternately, denoting the corresponding numbers:

1 blue small mother of pearl bead (bspb) (3.1),

4 golden small beads (gsb) (3.14),

1 bspb (3.141),

5 gsb (3.1415),

9 bspb (3.14159),

2 gsb (3.141592),

6 bspb (3.1415926),

5 gsb (3.14159265),

3 bspb (3.141592653),

5 gsb (3.1415926535),

8 bspb (3.1415926535 8),

9 gsb (3.1415926535 89).

Slide the beads into the middle of the wire.

Pi-Shape

DSCN7863----.JPG
1200px-Greek_lc_pi.svg.png

Bend the beaded wire into a Pi shape.

Wrapping One Side

DSCN7866--.JPG
DSCN7868--.JPG

To keep the shape of Pi, you have to wrap the ends of the wire between each bead. Make the transition of the wire on the back of the pendant.

To fix the upper bend at the letter, then in the place of the bend, pass the wire through the previous turn. Then continue wrapping until you reach the middle of the letter.

Making a Bail

DSCN7873---.JPG

Make a wire loop, twist the wire loop 1-2 times.

Wrapping the Second Side

DSCN7870--.JPG
DSCN7879--.JPG

Holding the opposite side of the wire with pliers, wrap the wire around the second half of the pendant as in the previous step.

Joining the Ends

DSCN7883--.JPG

Connect the ends of the wire by twisting them.

Cut the wire and round the ends.
