Physical Indoor Competitions With a Sock Ball
When I was 10, about 15 years ago, my friends and I used to play all sorts of games that only require a ball made of socks, a few empty drinking bottles and a laundry basket.
Although we usually preferred popular outside ball games (soccer, basketball), on rainy days (and when we were a bit more lazy), we used to play some physical, indoor games that we invented.
I would like to share 2 games that I remember that we enjoyed the most:
- "Bottles bowling"
- "Laundry basketball"
These games are competitive, can be scored, and can be combined into a multiplayer competition that can be a solution for an indoor activity for one to as many kids as wanted.
The order of playing the games in the competition is not an issue, as the games score can just be combined into a final score, without order importance.
last remark: during the last pandemic lockdown, I thought that this competition might be relevant more than ever, for families with kids that are forbidden from being outside and spend most of the time indoors at home.
Supplies
- 5 socks.
- 1 laundry basket.
- 1 - 10 small empty drinking bottles.
Prepare the Ball
First, we will need to prepare the ball using the socks:
- put a sock inside of another sock.
- twist the inner sock to make it rounded as a ball.
- cover the inner sock (that is now shaped as a ball) with the outer sock.
- repeat steps 1-3 with another sock that will now become the new outer sock.
Bottles Bowling Game
Bottles Bowling Game instructions:
- place the bottles in the following order.
- first row - 1 bottle.
- second row - 2 bottles.
- third row - 3 bottles.
- fourth row - 4 bottles.
- get about 2 meters away from the bottles.
- roll the ball into the bottles.
- count your round score = number of bottles you dropped.
- change player.
- repeat 1-5 to play another round if you want.
Laundry Basketball Game
Laundry Basketball Game instructions:
- take 1 step away from the basket.
- throw the ball to the basket.
- if you scored - you survive and continue to the next round.
- on the next round, take another step away from the basket.
