Photo to Drawing

In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to turn photo to drawing in just a few simple steps. To convert photo to sketch we'll need these resources:

• Your Photo (I used this Girl image from Pixabay)
• Sketch brushes for Photoshop
• Line art Photoshop action
• Grunge texture

To add an image in Photoshop go to File > Open and choose a JPG or PNG image file. You can also drag and drop image in Photoshop.

How to unlock the background layer in Photoshop? It's really easy. You just have to double click on the Background layer.

Then, change the name of the layer to Photo to Drawing.

Press Ctrl+J twice to duplicate the Photo to Drawing layer two times.

So, you have now three layers. Name the duplicated layers Photo to Drawing 1 and Photo to Drawing 2.

Now, we have to apply a sketch effect to each layer.

But, first it's very important to set the Foreground color black and the Background color white.

For the Photo to Drawing layer, go to Filter > Filter Gallery > Sketch and choose the Graphic Pen filter.

For the Photo to Drawing 1 layer, go to Filter > Filter Gallery > Sketch and choose the Charcoal filter.

Set the blend mode of the Photo to Drawing 1 layer to Multiply to see the sketch effect.

For the Photo to Drawing 2 layer, go to Filter > Filter Gallery > Sketch and choose the Photocopy filter.

Also very important, set the blend mode of this layer to Multiply.

Use these pencil brushes for Photoshop to make the drawing sketch effect even more realistic.

Use a dark color for the brush with different opacity levels. Combine different sketch brushes.

You can add a Levels adjustment to add more contrast to the photo to drawing image.

The sketch picture has a white background that it is not very realistic for a drawing. So, add a grunge texture with Multiply blend mode. Set the Opacity to around 20% or less.

So, this is the final result for the photo to sketch effect made in Photoshop with photo filters.
