Phone Sound EQ

Have you ever been listening to music on your phone and wished the audio sounded better? I've run into this problem many times, but luckily I have a solution! These instructions are for Android phones only.

All you need is your phone and headphones!

Main Phone Settings

Go into your phone's settings app, and select "Sounds and vibration". Scroll down to the bottom and select "Sound quality and effects". At the bottom of this page, select "Adapt sound", and then at the bottom of that page, "Test my hearing". This will launch a test for you, where you listen through your headphones to hear little beeps, and tell the phone whether or not you hear the beeps. Once this is over, save the preset as the headphone you are using, and you now have a custom audio preset that uses the weak and heavy aspects of audio to create a balance that sounds the best.

This part gets a bit more tricky. From the "Sound quality and effects" page, select "Equalizer". On the equalizer page, select Custom, and focus on the equalizer at the bottom. The 10dB, 0dB, and -10dB represent how loud the audio is, and the bottom numbers, ranging from 63 to 16k, are frequencies, measured in Hz. The lower the number, the lower the tone, so the 63 is the low tone bass, and the 16k is the high tone treble. You'll want to play music and mess with these sliders, knowing which ones affect which type of audio, until the music sounds perfect. What you hear as perfect may sound different to other people, so make sure you make the audio sound exactly how YOU want it to sound.

3rd Party App/Bass Boost

Does the audio now sound almost perfect, but needs a little bit of a kick? Go into the Play store app and search Bass Booster & Equalizer. Select the app pointed out in the photo, and install it. Once installed, you will be presented with a new equalizer. Keep in mind two things, 1, the equalizer is too big to fit on the screen at once, so you can scroll to see the other sliders, and 2, the high frequencies are now on the left and the low are on the right, which is opposite of what was on the setting EQ. Once again, fit the sliders to make the audio sound perfect, and save the preset using the dropdown menu across from the word Equalizer. This app allows you to change the Virtualizer and Bass Boost. I would recommend having the Virtualizer on 100% for a fuller sound. The Bass Boost is up to you. Once you are done, you can swipe the top to the right to find the volume control. Unlike your phone, this app allows you to go to 200% volume, but be careful, even 105% can be very overpowering. Just like that, your music should be sounding perfect! Trust me that you will continue to tweak it to sound better overtime, but now you can do that instead of having to live with the imperfect quality!
