Phone Holder Made of Baking Soda and Super Glue

The problem with many mobile phone holders is they won't let you to change then in the vertical position due to the position of the power cable.

This phone holder enables you to change in the vertical position so you can continue browsing the web at the same time.

It is made from stuff you may already have in your house: Baking Soda. Super Glue and a Paper Kitchen Towel, which when combined turn into a hard plastic..

Make a mold which will have the basis shape of the phone holder.

This can be shaped from a plastic container using scissors and sticky tape. A leaning backward leaning "L" shape was made, similar to an existing phone stand.

Applying cling film over the mould will help separation of the phone stand from the mould. I forgot to do this but it still came off without any problems.

Prepare your work area by laying down cling film, wearing disposal plastic gloves and having good ventilation, like do this outside or in front of an open window. The fumes from the super glue are pretty strong.

Cut a piece of kitchen paper towel to the shape and lay it over the mould.

Apply Super glue to the paper and then sprinkle on baking soda. This will create a hard plastic. Keep building up the phone stand using baking soda and super glue. Build up the bend. Building in some ridges will give the structure strength.

Remove from the mould and trim the edges using a pair of scissors.

Some holes for the phone charging cable to come out the back were drilled in the hardened plastic near the base. In hindsight this wasn't really necessary as the cable can come down at the front.

Probably a good idea to wear a mask when drilling and filing the plastic.

Make a ledge for the phone to rest in. This is done by wrapping some paper towel around a piece of dowel covered in cling film to make a 'U' and applying some super glue and baking soda.

• Little note: The "U" made was a little too deep. It would have been better to make a shallower one as it is for the base of the phone to rest in. Having a gap in the middle for the cord to come through would also be an advantage.

Glue the phone ledge to the stand with super glue and baking soda.

Drill a hole into the ledge for the charging cord to come through. I also found cutting a slit in the front made it easier to connect the charging cable. One of those things you pick up be doing.

You will now be able to use your phone in the vertical position while it's being recharged.
