Make a Philips hue dimmer switch fit over light switch box. The original light switch is first removed and the wires connected so the power is always on. It only takes about 15 minutes to modify the dimmer cover to screw onto the light switch box. The only tools needed are a screwdriver, utility knife, and soldering iron or wood burning iron.

Separate Cover

Take a screwdriver and separate the switch holder plate. The back is not needed anymore.

Mark Holes

Take the old switch and place it on top the cover. Then mark the holes where the switch screws onto the box. Take a soldering iron and burn into the plastic just enough to go all the way through.

Make Screw Holes

From the front side enlarge the holes enough for the screw to fit. Place the screw in the hole. Hold the soldering iron on top of the head of the screw. When the screw heats up slowly push the head into the plastic. Only push down until the head is countersunk otherwise the screw might go all the way through. Check the backside to make sure that the plastic formed around the shank of the screw. Take a screwdriver and turn the screw to brake it free from the plastic. Take a knife and clean up the extra plastic around the top of the holes.

Make Dimmer Fit

The top screw hole is in a recess that the dimmer switch fit into. The center of the ridge on the back of the switch needs to be removed. Place the switch in the cover and make sure it is solid and doesn't rock. The cover is now ready to screw onto the light switch box.
