Perpetual Motion Machine

This is a perpetual motion machine. The idea behind it is that it will continue to spin forever, if built correctly.

Supplies

IMG-1567.jpg
  • Cardboard
  • tape
  • knife/scissors
  • wd40
  • fidget spinner/bearing
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • piece of wood

Cut the Cardboard

IMG-1569.jpg
  1. Cut 2 circles, 5 in Dia.
  2. Cut 10 rectangles, 4''x1'
  3. Cut 10 1' squares

Begin Assembly

IMG-1573.jpg

Attach the squares to the circle, as shown. The squares should be equally placed along the perimeter.

Finish Assembly

IMG-1575.jpg
  • Place the other circle on top of the squares
  • Add the rectangles to the squares by placing tape on the joints, but only on 1 side. This allows the "arms" to bend one way, but not the other way.

Oil the Bearing

  • Take off the bearing cover
  • Drown the bearing in WD40 in order to reduce friction

Finish

IMG-1577.jpg
  • Glue the fidget spinner to the machine
  • Glue the fidget spinner's other side onto a piece of wood
  • Mount it straight up and down
  • If built correctly, it will spin forever once you start spinning it.
