Peppermint Taffy
This taffy is chewy, sweet, and has a hint of salt!
Collect Ingredients:
• 1 cup sugar
• 3\4 cup light corn syrup
• 2\3 cup water
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon peppermint extract
Collect Utensils:
• 1 9 X 13 pan
• Medium saucepan
• Long-handled spoon
• Candy thermometer
• Kitchen scissors
• Plastic wrap
• Cutting board
Cooking:
Grease baking pan with some butter.
Heat all ingredients (Except the peppermint extract.) just to boiling in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook without stirring to 256˚ (on candy thermometer), about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of peppermint extract. Pour the mixture into the buttered pan. Let cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
Pulling and Cutting:
When the taffy is ready to pull, wash and dry your hands and rub some butter on them. Fold, double and pull taffy until it is light in color and stiff. If the taffy sticks, rub some more butter on your hands. Cut into 1 inch pieces with scissors or a knife. Wrap each piece with plastic wrap. (Taffy will lose its shape if it isn't wrapped.) Enjoy!
