Pepper Shaker

I am going to show you how to make a small pepper shaker in solidworks.

You want to open a new part and open a sketch on the front plane.

 We are now going to draw a horizontal line going though the origin if you start the line on the origin, the design will not work. After you are done with that you need to smart dimension the line so it is 1.5 inches.

Now we will draw a horizontal line (starting at the leftmost point on the line you just drew.) going up not down. Smart dimension that line so it is 2.8 inches.

Your sketch should look something like an "L" now.

Now you want to draw a horizontal line at the top of the "L", you want it to go to the left. dimension that line to 0.55 inches.

Now you want to sketch a tangent arc at a 180 degree angle it should like like it does in the screenshot. (ignore the yellow object in there just look at the sketch.)  You want to dimension the radius of the arc to 0.322 inches.

Now you want to make another tangent arc, this time you want it to curve towards the bottom. (Again ignore everything in the background of the picture.) You want to dimension that line so the radius is 2.58 inches.

You want to sketch 1 last  tangent arc, at the endpoint of the last one that you sketched. The radius of that arc should be 0.45. (The arc should connect to the first line that you drew.)

You are almost done. Now you need to click the revolved boss base tool. Select the second line you sketched for the axis of revolution.. (It should be on the left if your in the isometric view.) Now you need to set the direction 1 angle to 360 degrees then hit okay.

When you are done your sketch should look like the picture above.

You are now going to shell the body of the salt shaker. Select the the hole piece and then shell it and then it should look like the picture above.

You are going to make the holes in the pepper shaker so you need to make 7 small holes in any pattern you want, make sure the holes are 0.4 inches in radius.

If you have done everything right so far your pepper shaker should look similar to the one above.
