Pen Making on a Lathe Instruction

A pen is a normal tool, but have you thought about making your own pen? I was definitely one hundred percent amazed by the first pen that I made. I was so shocked that I almost had to go to the hospital! The wood was smooth with a thick layer of oil on it, shining, shimmering, on the glowing wooden pen. The golden tip reflects the light from a silver table, just like the feeling when you wake up on the first day of summer. The thing is, it can be made only by turning a machine called a lathe. It was very simple but turned out so beautiful. I would never ever forget this first pen making experiment in my life.

Wooden Blocks, Pen Kit, Lathe, Drill press, Polished oil, Ruler, Band saw, Pen glue, Pen press and clamps

Open a pen kit, take out 2 metal tubes. Find 2 wooden blocks the same length as the 2 metal tubes. If they fit just right they are good, but if the blocks are a little bit too long you must use the band saw to cut it.

Clamp the blocks onto the drill table then use a drill press to drill a hole in the 2 wooden blocks from the top to the bottom (make sure it went through and adjust the table).

Use pen glue (or if you don’t have it super glue will work) to glue the metal tubes inside the 2 holes drilled in the blocks.

Using the lathe, you can have it spin by itself, then using the chisel you can make the pen onto the shape you want.

While the lathe is still spinning sand the wood using the sandpaper. After a little while of sanding, you can use a cloth and pour some polish oil on it and polish it.

Using the pen press press the top half of the pen together then using all your muscles press the top half into the bottom half, and you are done with your wonderful pen.
