Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars
I had some marshmallows and extra Honey Nut Cheerios sitting around so I decided to make some bars. I've seen some different recipes online, so I just combined things I liked and went with it. These Peanut Butter Cheerio bars are gooey and very delicious :)
Supplies
Here is what you need to make these yourself. You can change up the proportions as much as you want. With these amounts, your bars will be fairly gooey, but they are so good it is worth the sticky fingers!
Ingredients:
- 5c Honey Nut Cheerios - for less flavorful bars, you can use plain Cheerios
- 1c Mini Marshmallows
- 1/2c Peanut Butter - I don't know if Chunky PB will work, but it could be a fun experiment
- 1/2c Honey
Utensils:
- Sauce Pan
- Wooden Spoon
- Mixing Bowl
- Measuring Cups
- 8x8 or 9x13 Pan - I used a smaller pan so I could have thicker bars for the picture, but use a larger pan for more manageable pieces
Preparation
Get your bowl of 5 cups of Honey Nut Cheerios ready. Spray your pan or put down a layer of wax paper.
Once your ingredients are melted, you are going to want to work fast as everything is just so sticky.
Melt and Mix Ingredients
Mix your marshmallows, peanut butter, and honey in your sauce pan.
Put it on your stove on low heat. It may be tempting to turn it up, but don't. The first time I did this I used a little bit higher heat and the mixture started to burn. For a few minutes, the honey and peanut butter will mix fine, but it will look like the marshmallows aren't doing anything. Don't worry, and don't turn up the heat. For me, after a few minutes suddenly the marshmallows just went from solid to melted. So you just need to be patient.
Stir fairly frequently to make sure your mixture doesn't burn.
As soon as it is melted, mix it in with your Cheerios and when that is mixed, put it in your pan. Don't dawdle, it's all very sticky.
Enjoy
Let your bars sit for a bit to get harder so they don't just fall apart. You can also put them in the fridge to get them to harden a bit, but no matter what you do, they will be sticky/gooey. Just go with it.
Store extras in an airtight container.
