Patchwork Bag

I made a patchwork felt bag for my semester project in Makerspace. I wanted to make this bag because I wanted my project to be something I can actually use in everyday life.

Supplies

  • 18 felt squares (3x3 inches)
  • 3 felt strips (1x20 inches)
  • thread
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • pin cushion

Cut Felt Squares

The first step is to cut 18 felt squares. I chose to cut 6 green, 6 red, and 6 orange. The size is also up to you, I decided to make the squares 3x3 inches and make a the bag 3x3 squares.

Begin Sewing Squares Together

Combine 2 Sides

Once you have 2 3x3 square patches of fabric, sew the edges together on 3 of the 4 sides of the bag. Make sure you leave one side open!

Flip Inside Out

If you want the rustic look of exposed hems, you can keep the bag how it is, but otherwise, turn it inside out for neat, cleaner edges!

Braid Handle

Take 3 long, thin strips of Felt and braid them together. Then, knot the ends.

Fasten Handle to Bag

Attach the ends of the braided rope to the purse, and secure them by sewing them to the inside of the bag.

All Done!

Flip inside out once more, and you're done!
