Paste Wax Finish
Paste wax can be used for all kinds of things such as wood finish, rust protector as well as for lubrication. It is an oil suspended in a wax that is a soft solid at room temperature.
Materials needed:
- Wax ( Beeswax, Carnauba wax, paraffin wax)
- Oil (Linseed oil, Tung oil)
- Heat source(Double boiler, Electric heater)
Time required: 5-15 mins
Melting and Mixing the Wax
Melt the wax using the heat source. Once the wax is melted add the oil slowly, stirring it as it combines. Remove the paste wax from the heat source after the wax has been mixes thoroughly with the oil. I used equal parts of wax and oil by weight. Use more oil for a softer wax and less oil for a harder wax.
Cooling
As the paste wax cools down, stir the mixture so that the oil and the wax do not separate. You can also place the wax in the fridge for the first few minutes.
Use Your Creation!
To use as a wood finish, use a paper towel to spread the wax onto the wood surface. The paste wax will be sure to give any wood surface a new look and highlight the wood grain.
