Party Bluetooth Speaker With RGB LEDs
Hi there, this is my first Instructables I am going to show you how I made this Party Speaker With RGB LEDs. This project is inspired by JBL Pulse and this instructables however its a very cheap and easy to make project with most of things can be found locally. I had a speaker which was lying in my house from long time but as it was in working condition so I used it in this project.
This project uses a 50W 8ohms(full range) speaker which is placed in a top firing position in the cylinder housing which provides a full 360deg of surround sound so you can place it anywhere in your room and enjoy the music. It has a bass radiator firing downwards which gives a rich bass. I have also added many photos and sound test videos i hope you like this DIY project.
Supplies
Tools required :
- Hacksaw for cutting PVC pipes
- Soldering Iron
- Glue Gun
- Super Glue
- Screw driver and Screws
- Sand Paper
- Drill
- Cutter
Parts and Components
- 3inch 50W 8ohms full range speaker
- TPA 3118 mono digital amplifier module
- Bluetooth module
- DC-DC buck converter
- Toggle switch
- 12V RGB LED strip WS2811, click here for LED strip
- 5.5mm DC power jack
- 4inch woofer cone
- Metal sheet
- 4" (110mm) PVC pipe
- 4" (110mm) END cap x2
- Connecting wires
- Transparent sheet
- Heat Shrink tubes
- 12V 5A power supply
- 1k ohms resistor x2
Making Enclosure
For the cylinder housing, cut 4" PVC pipe 21cm in height. For END cap drill a 3" hole for speaker and mark the position for screws for mounting speaker. Add a metal grill as that the size of hole of speaker to protect the speaker. Drill a hole of 4" on another END cap for bass radiator. The END caps are long in length if we connect both END cap to the PVC pipe we have very less space for led stirp, so cut the both END cap 2cm from bottom.
Drill 2 holes 1 for DC power jack and other for toggle switch on the down END cap.
Making Bass Radiator and Adding LED to the Cylinder
As in my city I searched the bass radiator but I didn't got it, so I have to make one. To make the bass radiator we need 4" woofer cone, remove the paper of cone we only need the outer surround . Cut the metal sheet to the size of the inner diameter of the surround. Stick the metal plate to the center of the surround and let it dry, here your bass radiator is ready. You can also refer this video for making bass radiator.
Stick the bass radiator to down END cap which has a 4" hole. Now wrap the LEDs around the cylinder in circular manner from top to bottom, drill a hole at the bottom where the LEDs starting, route the LED wire through this hole inside the cylinder. Place the dc power jack and switch to the holes we drilled to the bottom END cap and glue it with a lot of glue gun. Cut the bottom part of the cylinder for the space of DC power jack & switch so cylinder can be easily connected to the END cap.
Connections and Wiring
As we are using 12v power supply .The Bluetooth module needs 3.7 to 5v to operate, I have used the dc to dc buck converter, set the output voltage of buck converter to 5 volt by rotating the potentiometer on the buck converter. Connect the 5v output from to the buck converter to the Bluetooth module power input.
For the output signal from Bluetooth module ,connect the ground of the Bluetooth module to the input ground of the amplifier board . The amplifier board i am using is mono amp so, For the left & right from the Bluetooth module, add 1k ohm resistor in series to left & right output both and connect it to the positive input of amplifier board. Add the toggle switch to the LED strip so that we can on and off the led as per our wish. connect the dc jack wire to amplifier board and LED. Use the heat shrink for every possible connection.
You can also refer the connection diagram.
Assembly
Maybe you already started doing that and assembled electronics together with the case. secure everything inside the case with glue and close the cylinder with the END caps on both side.
Now cut extra piece of the PVC pipe of 4cm, cut that round piece of pipe in two halves and stick those parts to END cap which provides extra spacing between LED strip and transparent paper. Take the transparent paper cut it in the length of the cylinder and circumference of the END caps. To give the LED nice look rub the transparent paper with sand paper to give it a frosted paper like look it also helps to scatter the light. Slide that transparent paper to the cylindrical speaker housing from the top side. The 2cm piece which we had cut from the END cap can be used as stands for the speaker housing by cutting it in 4 parts and gluing it with the super glue to bottom END cap near the bass radiator as shown in above picture.
Finishing & Appearence
To cover the upper & lower of the speaker I have used the old jeans. You can also use cloth of your choice. I have sewed the cloth according to the dimensions of speaker, refer the above picture. You can customize or decorate the speaker to according to your choice to give it your personalized look.
Final Product and Sound, Bass Test
I have added the sound and bass test videos. You can enjoy the videos. Thank you.
