Papercraft Friends Playset Model

Friends Model Photo 4.jpg

"So no one told you life was gonna be this waaaay.

Your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A."

... But at least now you have a miniature model of Monica's Apartment to relive those 10 glorious seasons!

At one time or another, all six of the friends lived there, so it's only fitting to immortalize the show with a miniature of the iconic NYC flat.

-----> Download the printable file here. <-----

This DIY kit includes everything you see pictured! Everything!!! Detailed instructions are included to help you put it together. You'll need double sided matte photo paper (8.5 x 11), found at most office supply stores, you can use regular computer paper but it may be a little flimsy.

You'll find awesome details included like:

  • Monica's yellow cleaning gloves (cuz she's a neat freak)
  • Open the closet door to see Monica's shame from “The One With The Secret Closet” Season 8, Ep 14
  • Ross’ dinosaur toys from "The One with the Cooking Class” Season 8, Ep 21
  • Ross’ red sweater from "The One With The Red Sweater" Season 8, Ep 2
  • Phoebe’s guitar
  • Ross ands Rachel's "Frankie Say Relax" T-Shirt from “The One With The Tiny T-Shirt" Season 3, Ep 19
  • Phoebe’s Dollhouse from "The One with the Dollhouse" Season 3, Ep 20 (hasn't burned down yet)
  • TV Guide featuring the final episode, addressed to "Miss Chanandler Bong"
  • Rachel’s favorite movie, "Weekend at Bernie’s" and the one she says is her favorite, "Dangerous Liaisons".
  • Sandwich for Joey, his favorite food.
  • Joey’s imaginary friend Maurice, the Space cowboy. He's in there, I swear! - and more!

Also included are standees of the six main characters, so you can play along with the show or make up new shenanigans for them to get into.

And like the song says. "I'll be there for you!" Well, sorta... :)

Supplies

  • Double sided matte photo paper (8.5 x 11) 9 sheets
  • Scissors or craft knife
  • Gluestick or double sided tape

Print

  1. Download your file from here.
  2. Print the file. I recommend using 60 lb printable matte cardstock, but regular printer paper is fine.
  3. In the printer settings, make sure you are set to print at 100% size so the PDF fills up the whole page.
  4. If you want to scale your project for a different size doll, you can play around with the document size, but it may not all fit on the same sheet of paper.

Folding

Fold.png

There are two kinds of folds: Valley and Mountain. With Valley folds, the printed design is on the inside of the folded piece, while in Mountain Folds, the printed design is on the outsides. Score each line with a scoring tool or a worn out pen so it is easier to fold and you get a crisp fold.

Making Boxes

Boxes.png

A lot of the furniture and set pieces are constructed of mini boxes. Score along the lines and fold the box, then apply glue or tape to the flap and tuck it inside. Press to make sure it holds firmly.

Glue

Use glue stick or double sided tape for the cleanest results. Apply glue to the flap and meet it with its corresponding side. Some pieces are split up so they fit on a regular printed page, so match the numbers to make sure they meet up.

Making Furniture

A chair is just a bunch of small boxes put together. Build each box individually and then attach them together to get the final result.

Build the Room

  1. Attach the floor sections together to form the floor. I recommend gluing the floor design to a sturdier material like foam board or matte board.
  2. Attach the wall sections to the floor, making sure to match the numbers and letters to their correct location. You can also sturdy up the walls by attaching them to foam board or matte board.

Put It All Together

  1. Once the walls are in place, start gluing the furniture in place.
  2. In the kitchen, attach the bottom cabinets and counter first and work your way up.
  3. You can choose to leave the rest of the furniture free floating or glue it in place.
  4. Cut out the doll standees and arrange them around the room
  5. If you want to place yourself or your friends in the scene, print out a picture of the person that's the same size as the other characters in the room. You can cut out the person and place them in the scene with the rest of the characters.
