Paper Spectrometer

Papercraft spectrometer

A spectrometer (/spɛkˈtrɒmɪtər/) is a scientific instrument used to separate and measure spectral
components of a physical phenomenon. Spectrometer is a broad term often used to describe instruments that measure a continuous variable of a phenomenon where the spectral components are somehow mixed. In visible light a spectrometer can separate white light and measure individual narrow bands of color, called a spectrum.

I decided to make spectrometer for fun. Be aware, never look to sun or powerful light source (like laser)!!!

For spetrometer you will need:

1. CD

2. blueprint of papercraft

3. tape or glue

4. scissors, ruler

Optional:

1. pen with no ink

Prepare Blueprint

Firstly you need cut out blueprint and then make grooves for better bending with pen (no ink pen is better).

Finally just try to put together without glue.

Making Slit

It is necessary to make very tight slit.

Glue CD Part

From classical CD cut out slice. Then paste slit to bottom of spectrometer. Tip of CD slice must be close to slit.

Final

In final, put together spectrometer with glue. I haven´t glue, so I used tape.

I tested my spectrometer on LED light and classical bulb.
