Paper Mache Pie Piece

Hello!! What I made was a paper mache pie piece. I used different materials to create a pie. The paper mache pie is meant to be a decoration or a fun project to do. Making paper mache is a fun and easy project to do. This is the reason I did a paper mache pie.

Supplies

  1. Cardboard ( One medium-sized box is a good amount).
  2. One bottle of Elmer's glue
  3. Medium-sized paint brush
  4. Plastic cup ( for the glue mixture).
  5. 1/3 cup water
  6. Roll of paper towels ( you can also use newspaper or paper napkins).
  7. Paint ( colors: Red, orange, yellow, and brown)
  8. Paint Palette
  9. One pencil
  10. Hot glue gun
  11. Hot glue sticks

Cutting Out the Cardboard

The first step is to get a piece of cardboard about the size of a medium-sized paper. Then draw a triangle about 3 inches on the top and 6 inches going down. You can make it any size but the size given is good.

After cutting it out, use the rest of the cardboard to create more triangles. Use the triangle you just created to put on top of the cardboard, and with a pencil trace another triangle. Now you have two triangles. Now trace the side of one of the triangles to create a line on a piece of cardboard or draw a line 6 inches long.

Now make a long rectangle with the length of the side of the triangle. The height of the rectangle should be about 2 1/2 inches tall and the base should be six inches. Cut out two rectangles with the same measurements.

Now cut out 2 squares with the sides measuring 3 inches. You can always adjust the sizes based on your preference or what fits the structure better.

Assembling the Pieces

Plug in your glue gun. When ready, get one of the triangle pieces and one of the rectangle pieces. Put the triangle piece flat down, glue the bottom of the rectangle, and place it on the edge of the triangle. Do this on the other side too. Glue the two squares together to create one square. Now glue the square on the top of the edges of the two rectangle pieces. Glue the other triangle on top of the current structure. This creates the structure of the piešŸ„§

Mix 1/3 cup water with 1/2 cup Elmer's glue in the plastic cup. Get the paintbrush and paper towels. Cover the top of the pie structure with the glue mixture. Get a paper towel and break it into smaller pieces to fit the top of the pie structure. Use the paintbrush to stick the paper towel with the glue mixture to the pie structure. Do this until the top is covered and you can't really see the cardboard through the paper towels. Do this to the sides of the structure and the back. Let it dry for about a day, two days would be best, or until the structure is hard.

Tip: to make the paper mache harder, use more glue than water. If you want to speed up the drying process, put it in the sun for some time.

The next thing to do is the bottom. Since the other sides are now dry, you can handle the paper mache structure better and less sticky. Now paper mache the bottom. Let it dry for a day.

That is how you do paper mache!!

Painting the Pie

Make sure the pie is hard. If you knock on it, the pie should make a sound like hitting something hard. Get a pencil and draw the crust of the pie. On the bottom of the side of the pie make a line from about half an inch from the bottom. Use the first image as a reference on what to do. Now make the edge of the pie crust. From the taller side of the top of the pie, create a line to where it meets. Look at the image.

Now get the paint, paintbrush, palette, and a plastic cup of water. Use the brown paint to make the crust in the outline of the pencil marks. It should look like the second image. You can use different shades of colors if you want. In the rest of the space that has not been painted use red, orange, and yellow paint. This will make the filling of the cherry pie. You can use different shades of red to make different effects on the pie. If you want you can paint the bottom of the pie brown when the rest of the paint is dry.
