Paper Lucky Star Ring

I've liked making little paper stars for years now, and decided to see just how small I could get them. These tiny paper stars were the perfect size for decorating some jewelry!

1. 1/8 in wide strips of paper. You can cut these yourself, but paper made for quilling usually comes in this size.
2. Elmers, or other, white glue
3. Scissors

You will need to find something the size of your finger to wrap your base around. I had a small bottle of tacky glue that worked for my fingers, but you'll just have to experiment a bit to find the right fit.

Take one strip of paper (I used a dark blue) and wrap it around whatever you found that fits your finger. I applied a little Elmer's glue as I went, being careful not to glue the paper to the bottle. A good amount of glue will help your ring be strong.

Keep wrapping until you feel it is thick enough.

Take off the bottle and let dry.

The first step to fold your star is to tie an overhand knot in the paper. Flatten it so you have a pentagon shape. Trim off the shorter tail.

Begin folding by wrapping the long tail around the pentagon so that it lays flat. Continue this until the star is sturdy feeling. If you are using quilling paper, you probably won't be able to wrap the whole strip of paper.

Once your star is your desired thickness, cut the end and tuck in the little tail.

Use your fingernail to push against the flat edges of the pentagon a bit. Do this on every side until it becomes a 3-dimensional star. This can take the patience and practice to get right, so don't give up if it doesn't work on the first star.

Use some more glue to attach the stars to the ring and let dry. For a stronger hold, you might consider using craft glue or even hot glue.
