Materials and Tools
Materials
2cm wide strips (or sheets) of colourful paper
Tools
ruler (optional)
scissors
stapler
PVA glue
Cut Your Strips to Size
Cut the paper into strips 2cm wide (if not already done so).
1. Take ten strips of same colour and cut each to 14cm long.
2. Take another ten strips of one colour and cut to 11cm long.
3. Take another ten strips of one colour and cut to 8cm long.
4. Take a further ten strips of one colour and cut to 5cm long.
Stack the Strips
Lay one 5cm strip on a surface and then lay, in turn, one 8cm, 11cm and 14cm strip over it.
Then take one more of 14cm, 11cm, 8cm and 5cm strip in turn and place on top of the first pile.
Align all strips at one end and staple near this edge and in the middle of the 2cm width.
Make a Petal
Take the loose ends of both 5cm strips from this stack and bring them down to meet.
While holding these ends with one hand, bring the ends of the other strips down.
Align these to form a heart and staple near the edge.
This makes one petal.
Make Four More Petals
Repeat the previous steps for the other petals.
Assemble the Petals Into a Flower
Arrange the 'points' of each petal so that they meet in the centre. The petals should be touching each other at the fullest part of the hearts. Add a spot of glue in these areas to join the petals together.
Add a centrepiece with a dab of glue.
Tips:-
¨ Use the PVA glue sparingly.
¨ Cut all strips to the same width.
¨ You can make bigger flowers by increasing the length of the strips, but the shortest strip must not be less than 5cm.
¨ When stapling, ensure the staple is straight and even.
¨To make a window display, you can apply glue from a glue stick to the front of the centre and adhere to the window.
¨Alternatively, attach a string loop to the flower to hang up.
