A paperclip is an innovative device used to hold sheets of paper together, usually made of steel wire looped in a specific shape (plastic is recommended for printing this CAD). Engineering principles are an ingenious part of paper clips' design, and the torsion and elasticity in the wire combined with friction between wire and paper allow the metal to grip the sheets together. This amazingly simple yet powerful tool will help to declutter space, get more done, and reduce stress from unorganized files.

The Paperclip's Inspirational Design

The inspiration for this design is the standard office paperclip. While brainstorming ways to bring organization to the desk, the modern paperclip stood out in its simplicity. By virtue of printing the product, there will be grooves and imperfections on the surface, which make it stand out from the standard paperclip and differentiate the product. The surface ridges will allow for better gripping of surfaces.

I recommend finding a paperclip in your house to look at while doing the computer-aided design. The paper clip is such a common household tool that you should have no trouble encountering one within your abode.

The design is constructed from 4 extruded cylinders and 3 half circles. It can be scaled to any size, from mini to extra-large to produce a full range of versatility in keeping paperwork organized. It stands out from the average paperclip since a very large version it can be printed in several segments and potentially glued together, leaving passerby to marvel at where such a large paperclip was created, and how. Furthermore, a extra large paperclip can weigh down papers better.

By using engineering principles in conjunction with modern CAD techniques in Fusion 360, we have the final paperclip, which is great for desk organization and keeping papers together.

Use Cases

The final product is great for keeping papers together and keeping a professional appearance. The paperclip can also be used for bartering goods and has famously been traded up for a house in a series of online trades. So you never know, this modest desk organization device may just help you find a place to call home.
