Making a Paper Bag

This project is a great way to save on buying bags and a great way to use recycled or scrap paper, saving on waste. This bag has been tested for its ability to hold weight and can hold up to 19 lbs. with super strong handles. These directions don't give exact measurements but guidelines so you can choose how big or small a bag you want. Some great uses for this bag are party bags, reusable grocery bag, or lunch bag and more.

The video explains steps 2-9 in more detail.

Materials

1. Paper

2. Glue

3. Ribbon

4. Scissors

5. Scale/Measuring Tape

Layout the sheet with desired dimensions (the longer the sheet the more space the bag will have). Apply the glue as shown by the blue line.

Take both sides and fold to the middle. Overlap where the glue was applied over the other folded side, with the glued edge over the other side.

Crease the edges by folding them in. Fold a distance that is half of the desired width of the bag.

Fold the bottom to desired length of bag bottom.

Take the shown edges and compress to the middle. Refer to next step.

Open from top and form out bag.

Cut 4 20 in. long ribbons, two for each handle, and 4 pieces of paper 6 in. x 4 in.

For each handle take two ribbons and intertwine them. Then fold them in half with the ends on one of the pieces of paper. Apply glue over the ends on the paper and then place another piece of paper over the strings and glue. Now apply glue to the new piece of paper.

Take the handle piece and stick it to the wall of the bag where you want the handle. Do this for both handles. The bag is now complete.
