Panna Cotta
Panna cotta means cooked cream and comes from the Northern part of Italy. This dessert came out of the desperation for preserving excessive milk farmers got from farm animals. This dessert can be flavoured with anything from vanilla, to strawberry, coffee, just name it. It has got a creamy custard like texture and is not very sweet.
Ingredients:
Double cream – 200ml
Milk – 200ml
Sugar – 50g (1/4 Cup)
Gelatine – 1 Table spoon
Vanilla Bean Paste – 1 Tea Spoon
For Sauce
Strawberries – 350g
Sugar – 2 Tea Spoons (Optional)
Couple of table spoons of water
Step 1: Blooming Gelatine
First mix Gelatine in 2 table spoons of cold milk. Give a stir and let it to bloom. It will take anything from 5-10 minutes for it to bloom. Set that aside and let's move on to the next step.
Step 2: Preparing the Mixture
In a pan add Double cream, milk and sugar. Give a good stir and cook it until it comes to a boil. Heat should be medium so that nothing burns or sticks to the bottom of the pan. A non-stick cookware would be most appropriate in this case, or maybe a heavy bottom pan.
Stir occasionally. When bubbles starts to form, put Vanilla paste and give a good stir and then remove from the heat.
Step 3: Adding Gelatine
Add the Gelatine mixture to the cream mixture and give a very good stir. There shouldn't be any granules left in the mixture. Once everything is thoroughly combined, let the mixture cool down a little bit, maybe 5-10 minutes.
Step 4: Serving on Glasses
Pour the mixture into serving glasses. I chose wine glasses. You may wanna use ramekins. It looks gorgeous on glasses. Make sure you fill up not any more than half a glass as we need some room for pouring the syrup.
If you choose to put them on Ramekins, make sure you dip them in hot water when you want to unmold them to your serving plates.
Once they are cooled down, wrap with cling film and refrigerate them for at least 5-6 hours. keeping them in the fridge overnight is best but 5-6 hour does the job.
Step 5: Preparing the Sauce
Let's prepare the sauce now. You may prepare the sauce and leave it in the fridge or you can prepare the sauce just an hour or 45 minutes before serving, so that the sauce is not hot.
Cut some strawberries into chunks. Put strawberries, sugar and couple of table spoons of water in a pan and cook for 8-10 minutes juts until strawberries are soft and the juice thickens. There should be lots of bubbles when the sauce is done.
Take it off the heat and let it cool down.
Step 6: Serve
All the work is done. Unwrap the glasses and put Strawberry sauce. 4-5 table spoons is ideal but fill it according to your liking. I hope you enjoy making them. For the full recipe video click the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHySis7ErnU
