Pallet Wood & Glass Bottle Vase

In this Instructables I'll show how I made my pallet wood and glass bottle vase. It was my mum's birthday and she's a florist so I wanted to make her something she could use in that. This is a nice and simple build, and didn't actually cost me anything as I already had everything lying around.

For this project you will need;

• 1 board of pallet wood
• 3 x Glass Bottles
• Wood Glue
• Hole Saw Drill Bits
• Wood Clamps
• Orbital Sander

I started by cutting the wood down to size. The top and bottom were just over 30cm long. I used the mitre saw to make sure they were all even.

In the top board I needed to drill 3 x holes for the bottle tops. The bottles I had needed holes around 3.5cm wide but this will totally vary depending on what bottle you use. I predrilled these holes to make it a little easier and ensure I get them even. I drew a central line to get the middle perfect. Then I took my hole saw set and widened the holes to make them big enough for the bottle.

I then sanded all the pieces. I started with 80grit and worked all the way up to 320. I don't usually go that high but as this is a present for my mum I thought I would make the extra effort. I made sure everything was nice and smooth and soft.

I then glued up all the ends. I just did simple butt joints. I decided not to add any screws or nails as the glue will be plenty strong enough. The piece won't actually be under any strain ever, and no pressure on it so the glue is suffice. I clamped it up and left for around 6 hours to make sure it was fully cured.

I then cleaned up any squeeze out from the glue. I then used my homemade bees wax wood finish. Check my video on how to make your own. I used a cloth to work it onto the wood, and then a new clean cloth to buff it and melt the wax down.

Then all I had left to do was put the glass bottles in, and some flowers.
