Pallets are easy to acquire, an easy to manipulate so they are fantastic materials to help improve visual surroundings. In this Instructable I will be explaining how to make flower box out of old pallets. Pallets are great materials to maximize on vertical space for your green thumb.

Obviously, One needs to acquire a pallet to make a pallet flower bed. Pallets generally have a side with less slats, and I would suggest using that side on the front. I would Also suggest find a pallet with evenly spaced slats to make project ascetically pleasing.
Remove Excess Slats

All that is required as far as horizontal slats is two parallel slats for each flower box. Removal of excess slats can be done one of two ways.
- Remove the nails attaching the slats to the pallet frame. I would not suggest pursuing this method since pallets are industrial materials and nails can be numerous.
- Cut away the slats with a saw. I chose to use an electric hand held saw.
Note* Keep the boards for possible future use in this project.
Create the Bottom of the Flower Boxes

For our Flower Boxes to be boxes they need bottoms.
- I first clamped the boards I used into position.
- I then drove nails in the boards to hold the bottom of the boxes into place on both sides of the pallet. An alternative could be driving screws with a drill.
- beware the fact that pallets are generally made of poor quality wood, thus splitting may possible.
Note* Here I used the boards from the slats I removed. You could use lumber from any source.
Stylistic Finish

Pallets are industrial tools, thus they can be rough and ascetically unpleasing. A remedy for this problem is sanding the rough wood and adding a stain or paint. I chose to keep the rural industrial ascetic, and I personally chose to skip this step on this particular project.
Add Lining to Flower Box

Add flower bed garden lining to keep dirt and soil in the box.
- Cut a thin strip of the lining from the role with a box cutter.
- Fill box with the lining
- secure the lining with the box.
- I Used tacks, an alternative is staples
- Cut away the excess lining with box cutter

Keeping in mind the box is not deep, flowers, herbs, or vegetable with shallow roots are suggested.
Conclusion - This project is a great and easy way to improve your view and a great way to reuse a pallet.
