Pallet Flag

This is a super easy project that can be done in one day.

The items I used were

a wood pallet

red,white, and blue paint of your choice

contact paper

tape

and adapted it to what I was wanting. You can use any sized pallet , and the results are really pretty for any size you use.

The first thing I did was to print out on stock paper the size stars I thought was appropriate for my sized pallet.

I found a clip art of a star cut and pasted into Word then printed on to card stock. I made the stars 3" width and wide. I got my star here.

Once I printed it off, I traced the amount of stars I wanted to use onto the contact paper then cut them out.

I got my contact paper from Walmart in kitchen area, and picked the one that was the smallest roll for the smallest amount of money.

For my project I used 12 stars for each pallet. (I made two pallets)

Once I got all the stars cut up, I began to paint my pallet.

I started with white. I painted the first 3 slates white to the middle of the pallet ( I used clear tape to align my ending point for the white paint, see the second pic). I then painted every other slat white all the way across. I then painted every other slat red . I did put two layers of paint for each color. Now let the paint dry.

Make sure the white paint is totally dry before sticking on the stars. The white on the first 3 slats to the midway point will be painted blue over the contact paper stars.. I put the contact paper stars evenly spaced in 4 columns and 3 rows. Make sure you rub the contact paper down so there is good contact to the white paint. Once the stars have good contact you can paint over the all white slats that were painted to the midway point. I used 3 layers of paint for the blue as I was wanting a deeper blue.

Make sure the blue paint is totally dry. Once the paint is all dry slowly peel the contact stars off. Make sure you do it slowly so that you don't peel some of the blue paint off when the star comes off.(see the 6th pic)

I like the worn weathered look, so I used some sandpaper to rough up the slats.

Once I finished that I added a layer of spray polyurethane do seal and protect.
