Pallet Chest

Do you have a bunch of stuff laying the house doing nothing?? Just follow these simple steps and you'll have a place to put all that stuff in no time. It's quite a difficult project for the beginner. I took about 3 to 5 days to make the chest. The chest is about 82 by 42 by 40 or 32 by 16 by 15 inches.
I needed to pallets for this project. One light wood and one dark wood. But it doesn't matter what kind of you choose. stick untill the end for a suprise!!

We begin this project with the bottom. It will be build up of 4 10 by 76 by 2 cm or 3.9 by 29 by 0.7 inches wooden pallet plank. The bottom will be made with the light planks. After you cut everything, you have to place the longest sides next to each other and screw them together like seen on the picture. You also have to use woodglue. While screwing everything together make sure that the top of the planks are all the same. It doesn't matter if the screws stick out a bit, because there will be legs on the bottom.

For the sides you have to get the dark wooden planks. You have to cut them to 80 by 10 by 2 cm or 31 by 3.9 by 0.78 inches. You need 10 of these You also have to cut the same dark wooden planks to 40 by 10 by 2 cm or 15 by 3.9 by 0.78 inches. You have to make 6 of these, but it doesn't matterif you have more of these because you can just put them together and you'll have an 80 by 10 by 2 cm plank. Now you have to cut the light wooden planks. You have to cut these to 30 by 10 by 2 cm or 11 by 3.9 by 0.78 inches. You have to make 8 of these. Now you can alsemble all 4 of the sides like seen on the pictures. You can put it toghether with nails or screws. But make sure that when you put the light wooden planks on that you put them 2 cm or 0.78 inches from the edge. Like seen in the picture.

The top is made of the dark wooden planks. They are the same measurements as the sides. You need 4 of these. I reused two of the 40 by 10 by 2 cm or 15 by 3.9 by 0.78 inches dark wooden planks from the sides of the chest. You also have to make a 80 by 4 by 2 cm or 31 by 1,5 by 0.78 inches plank. But this plank wasn't dark wood. But luckely i had a homemade wood stain. (This is made of coffee vineger and rusty nails. Put them toghether in a jar and let them be for a week.) after you got all of the planks you have to put it together. You have to do this with a smaller plank. You can just put it on the bottom and screw it all together. Just like in the picture.

Now you an put the hinges on it. Its not that hard. Just scew it on the back and the top. Now put the lock on the front. Get a small scrap piece of light wood on the front, and then put the lock thing on. If you want you can dril holes in the side to put rope trough. You also have to put ring screws in the side and the top, after you put them in you have to connect a chain to both. So the chest wont open too far. If your done with that you can put the legs on. Just get some light wood and screw it on the bottem with screws and woodglue.
