this is a cool art project that uses nail polish to create stunning rock art. warning: this is hard.

Supplies

  • nail polish (any color)
  • cups filled almost to the top with clean water
  • small rocks (not pebbles, but not boulders)
  • toothpicks

place a small drop of nail polish in the water (don't hold the brush way above the cup, just hold the brush so it almost touches the water and place the drop of polish gently in the water).

swirl the polish with a toothpick to create a marble effect. Make sure you do this VERY LIGHTLY because a clear filmy substance will develop along with the polish and if you stir too rough, then all of the nail polish you put in the cup will stick to the toothpick and it will ruin the effect.

with disposable gloves (optional), dip the rock into the nail polish and hold the rock under water for about 30 seconds. Slowly take out and leave to dry.

Don't get discouraged with this project. It will be hard. This project was very challenging for me and I had to start over multiple times. This is a great project for a weekend or a sunny day!
